In this letter, we consider a control problem of a chain of integrators where there is an uncertain delay in the input and sensor noise. This is an output feedback control result over [10] in which a state feedback control is suggested. The several generalized features are: i) output feedback control is developed instead of full state feedback control, ii) uncertain delay in the input is allowed, iii) all states are derived to be arbitrarily small under uncertain sensor noise.
In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based systems, intercarrier interference (ICI) created by the time varying property of wireless fading channels, degrades the data detection performance. This degradation strengthens especially when the mobile speed is relatively high or the number of subcarriers is large. Here, we interpret the time varying channel as the linear transformation of the time invariant channel impulse response. By using this new channel model, the time varying component can be reduced in the time domain by applying the inverse transformation to the received sequence. Then, the remaining time invariant channel component is removed by the equalization in the frequency domain. Some complexity reduction schemes are also proposed to make the proposed method feasible for practical implementation. The simulation results show that the new method offers a significant improvement in terms of bit error rate performance, especially when the number of subcarriers is larger than about 500.

For advanced mobile communication systems that adopt orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) technologies, intercarrier interference (ICI) significantly degrades performance when mobility is high. Standard specifications and concerns about complexity demand low-cost methods with deployment readiness and decent performance. In this paper, novel zero forcing (ZF) and minimum mean-square error (MMSE) equalizers based on per-subcarrier adaptive (PSA) processing and perturbation-based (PB) approximation are introduced. The proposed equalizers strike a good balance between implementation cost and performance; therefore they are especially suitable for OFDMA downlink receivers. Theoretical analysis and simulations are provided to verify our claims.

The present paper introduces a new approach to the construction of a sequence set with a zero-correlation zone (ZCZ), which is referred to as a ZCZ sequence set. The proposed sequence construction generates a ZCZ sequence set from a ZCZ sequence set. The proposed method can generate an almost optimal ZCZ sequence set, the member size of which approaches the theoretical bound, when an almost optimal ZCZ sequence is used for the sequence construction. The proposed sequence set consists of NO subsets, where a ZCZ sequence set Z(LO, NO, ZO is used in sequence construction. The correlation function of the sequences of a pair of different subsets, referred to as the inter-subset correlation function, has a ZCZ with a width that is about times that of the correlation function of sequences of the same subset (intra-subset correlation function) for integers Λ ≥ 1, T, and m ≥ 0. Wide inter-subset zero-correlation enables improved performance during application of the proposed sequence set.

This paper proposes an On-Ground Polarization-Forming (GPF) technique to realize a novel polarization-tracking-free satellite communication system whose communication satellite uses linear polarizations. In this system, mobile terminals use circular polarization to realize polarization-tracking-free and simplified terminal configuration. To output circular polarization from the satellite's horizontal and vertical polarization antennas, those output signals transmitted from the satellite are controlled by the base station using the GPF technique. We fabricate a GPF transmitter to evaluate its polarization forming performance. Measured results show that the proposed technique achieves very high cross-polarization discrimination, more than 27 dB.
Constructing APN or 4-differentially uniform permutations achieving all the necessary criteria is an open problem, and the research on it progresses slowly. In ACISP 2011, Carlet put forth an idea for constructing differentially uniform permutations using extension fields, which was illustrated with a construction of a 4-differentially uniform (n,n)-permutation. The permutation has optimum algebraic degree and very good nonlinearity. However, it was proved to be a permutation only for n odd. In this note, we investigate further the construction of differentially uniform permutations using extension fields, and construct a 4-differentially uniform (n,n)-permutation for any n. These permutations also have optimum algebraic degree and very good nonlinearity. Moreover, we consider a more general type of construction, and illustrate it with an example of a 4-differentially uniform (n,n)-permutation with good cryptographic properties.

NICT has developed a test model of an optically controlled beam-forming network (OBF) for a future multiple-beam antenna. The OBF test model consists of an electro-optic converter unit, an OBF unit, and an optoelectronic converter unit. A Ka-band OBF test model was manufactured to demonstrate the OBF. Radiation patterns obtained from the measured OBF data confirmed agreement between the expected and calculated results. Communication tests of the bit error rate (BER) for the digital communication link were performed. The results confirmed the OBF had no serious degradation below 1 dB of Eb/N0 on BER performance at 110-8.

This paper presents a novel similarity measure that computes similarity scores among scientific research papers. The text of a given paper in online scientific literature is often found to be incomplete in terms of its potential to be compared with others, which likely leads to inaccurate results. Our solution to this problem makes use of both text and link information of a paper in question for similarity scores in that the comparison text of the paper is strengthened by adding that of papers related to it. More accurate similarity scores can be computed by reinforcing the input with the citations of the paper as well as the citations included within the paper. The efficacy of the proposed measure is validated through our extensive performance evaluation study which demonstrates a substantial gain.

A can swells due to gas produced from an inner food caused by poor hermetic sealing of the can. This paper presents a measurement for the bottom shape to detect a swelled can by using the millimeter-wave imaging. For get higher spatial resolution and an adjustable focal distance, two collimated beam lenses were applied to the measurement system. First, a configuration of the system was studied with the electrical field intensity and focal distance by using full wave electromagnetic simulation. Next, the bottom shapes of cans with different pressure were evaluated quantitatively using the system. A shape change of 0.5 mm was detected with pressure difference of 50 kPa, and it is reasonable considering actual dimension of the can shape. A potential of the proposed detection method was presented.

PMIPv6 is the IETF standard for a network-based localized mobility management protocol. In PMIPv6, MNs are topologically anchored at an LMA, which forwards all data for registered MNs. However, since all data packets destined for MNs always traverse the MNs' LMA, the end-to-end packet delay is increased. Therefore, this paper proposes an RO scheme in single and multiple LMA environments. For efficient RO possibility detection, an IPv6 RO extension header and initial RO procedure are proposed. Plus, an effective post-handover RO procedure is presented, along with a packet forwarding scheme to avoid the race condition problem during an RO operation. A Performance evaluation confirms that the proposed scheme can significantly reduce the end-to-end delay, signaling overhead, and RO latency when compared with existing RO schemes.

A new information detection method has been proposed for a very fast and efficient search engine. This method is implemented on hardware system using FPGA. We take advantages of Content Addressable Memory (CAM) which has an ability of matching mode for designing the system. The CAM blocks have been designed using available memory blocks of the FPGA device to save access times of the whole system. The entire memory can return multi-match results concurrently. The system operates based on the CAMs for pattern matching, in a parallel manner, to output multiple addresses of multi-match results. Based on the parallel multi-match operations, the system can be applied for pattern matching with various required constraint conditions without using any search principles. The very fast multi-match results are achieved at 60 ns with the operation frequency 50 MHz. This increases the search performance of the information detection system which uses this method as the core system.

In this letter, the amount of interference and an analytic methodology from a combination of Korea's LTE system and Japan's digital terrestrial TV broadcasting system using the 700 MHz frequency band are established when considering a practical deployment of both systems. We performed Monte-Carlo simulations on the throughput loss to evaluate how much interference radiating from Japan's DTV is imposed on the Korean LTE system. The results of the established methodology can be used as a guideline for allowing the deployed LTE system to avoid an unacceptable amount of interference.

In this paper, the design and fabrication of a miniaturized class-F 2.5 GHz 8 W power amplifier using a commercially available GaN HEMT bare chip from TriQuint and a Selectively Anodized Aluminum Oxide (SAAO) substrate are presented. The SAAO process was recently proposed and patented by Wavenics Inc., Daejeon, Korea, which provides the fabrication of small size circuit comparable to conventional MMIC and at drastically low cost due to the use of aluminum as a wafer. The advantage of low cost is especially promising for RF components fabrication in commercial applications like mobile communications. The fabricated power amplifier has a compact size of 4.4 4.4 mm2 and shows power added efficiency (PAE) of about 35% and harmonic suppression of above 30 dBc for second and third harmonics at an output power of 39 dBm.
The mode-matching applications to scattering from circular and annular apertures in a thick perfectly conducting plane are reviewed. The Hankel and Weber transforms are utilized to solve the boundary-value problems of circular and annular apertures. Simple electrostatic problems are presented to illustrate the mode-matching method in terms of the Hankel and Weber transforms. Various types of Weber transform are discussed with boundary-value problems. Electromagnetic radiation and scattering from circular and annular aperture geometries are summarized. The utility of the mode-matching method in circular and annular aperture scattering is emphasized.

In this paper, we propose a novel texture analysis method capable of estimating multiple primitives, which are elements repetitively arranged to compose a texture, in multi-structured textures. The approach is based on a texture description model that uses mathematical morphology, called the “Primitive, Grain, and Point Configuration (PGPC)” texture model. The estimation of primitives based on the PGPC texture model involves searching the optimal structuring element for primitives according to a size distribution function and a magnification. The proposed method achieves the following two improvements: (1) the simultaneous estimation of a multiple number of primitives in multi-structured textures with a ranking of primitives on the basis of their significance. and (2) the introduction of flexibility in the process of magnification to obtain a higher degree of fitness of large grains. With a computational combination of different primitives, the method provides an ordered priority to denote the significance of elements. The promising performance of the proposed method is experimentally shown by a comparison with conventional methods.

In this paper, we introduce a construction of 16-QAM sequences based on known binary sequences using multiple sequences, interleaved sequences and Gray mappings. Five kinds of binary sequences of period N are put into the construction to get five kinds of new 16-QAM sequences of period 4N. These resultant sequences have 5-level autocorrelation {0, ±8, ±8N}, where ±8N happens only once each. The distributions of the periodic autocorrelation are also given. These will provide more choices for many applications.

The Hilbert-Schmidt independence criterion (HSIC) is a kernel-based statistical independence measure that can be computed very efficiently. However, it requires us to determine the kernel parameters heuristically because no objective model selection method is available. Least-squares mutual information (LSMI) is another statistical independence measure that is based on direct density-ratio estimation. Although LSMI is computationally more expensive than HSIC, LSMI is equipped with cross-validation, and thus the kernel parameter can be determined objectively. In this paper, we show that HSIC can actually be regarded as an approximation to LSMI, which allows us to utilize cross-validation of LSMI for determining kernel parameters in HSIC. Consequently, both computational efficiency and cross-validation can be achieved.
This paper proposes an asymptotic method for calculating the received intensity of multi-path millimeter waves transmitted over an undulating surface. This method is a generalization of the asymptotic method that the authors previously derived, based on a quartic phase function approximation, from the physical optics integral expression of the received intensity. The applicability of the previous method is limited to ratios of transmission distance (D) to surface undulation wavelength (λs) of roughly less than 2. This is because the method is based on a quartic phase function approximation. In this paper, this limitation is resolved through this method's generalization, which is achieved by incorporating a technique for calculating the diffraction integral with a higher-degree phase function by using the steepest descent technique with a procedure for systematically identifying the active saddles of the phase function. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed asymptotic method can attain calculation accuracy comparable with the physical optics method, even in the case of large D/λs values.

This paper presents a compact metal plate lens antenna for evaluating a wave absorber placed on ceiling of the ETC gate. The focal distance of the lens was derived to be 129 cm by the geometrical optics procedure. By arranging the lens in front of a horn antenna, the gain and beamwidth characteristics were improved from 18 dBi to 26 dBi and from 22 degrees to 7 degrees, respectively. Then the antenna characteristics were evaluated when the distance between the antenna and the lens was changed in order to miniaturize the lens antenna. As the result, the changes in beamwidth were held to within 1 dB when the lens came close to the horn antenna. Scattering, phase and electric field intensity of electromagnetic wave were evaluated to clarify the foundation of the given characteristics. It was found that the field intensity for the miniaturized lens antenna is stronger than that for GO designed one though the phase uniformity is worse. The distance between the horn antenna and lens can be reduced to 80 cm. The absorption characteristics for the arranged absorbers which have different absorptions were measured, and it was shown that the proposed method was suitable for specifying the deteriorated absorber in the ETC system.
