    Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) has achieved many state-of-the-art performances on various complex tasks related to the temporal and sequential data. But most of these RNNs require much computational power and a huge number of parameters for both training and inference stage. Several tensor decomposition methods are included such as CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP), Tucker decomposition and Tensor Train (TT) to re-parameterize the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) RNN. First, we evaluate all tensor-based RNNs performance on sequence modeling tasks with a various number of parameters. Based on our experiment results, TT-GRU achieved the best results in a various number of parameters compared to other decomposition methods. Later, we evaluate our proposed TT-GRU with speech recognition task. We compressed the bidirectional GRU layers inside DeepSpeech2 architecture. Based on our experiment result, our proposed TT-format GRU are able to preserve the performance while reducing the number of GRU parameters significantly compared to the uncompressed GRU.

    This paper proposes a release-aware bug triaging method that aims to increase the number of bugs that developers can fix by the next release date during open-source software development. A variety of methods have been proposed for recommending appropriate developers for particular bug-fixing tasks, but since these approaches only consider the developers' ability to fix the bug, they tend to assign many of the bugs to a small number of the project's developers. Since projects generally have a release schedule, even excellent developers cannot fix all the bugs that are assigned to them by the existing methods. The proposed method places an upper limit on the number of tasks which are assigned to each developer during a given period, in addition to considering the ability of developers. Our method regards the bug assignment problem as a multiple knapsack problem, finding the best combination of bugs and developers. The best combination is one that maximizes the efficiency of the project, while meeting the constraint where it can only assign as many bugs as the developers can fix during a given period. We conduct the case study, applying our method to bug reports from Mozilla Firefox, Eclipse Platform and GNU compiler collection (GCC). We find that our method has the following properties: (1) it can prevent the bug-fixing load from being concentrated on a small number of developers; (2) compared with the existing methods, the proposed method can assign a more appropriate amount of bugs that each developer can fix by the next release date; (3) it can reduce the time taken to fix bugs by 35%-41%, compared with manual bug triaging;

    In this paper, we propose the decomposition ring homomorphic encryption scheme, that is a homomorphic encryption scheme built on the decomposition ring, which is a subring of cyclotomic ring. By using the decomposition ring the structure of plaintext slot becomes ℤpl, instead of GF(pd) in conventional schemes on the cyclotomic ring. For homomorphic multiplication of integers, one can use the full of ℤpl slots using the proposed scheme, although in conventional schemes one can use only one-dimensional subspace GF(p) in each GF(pd) slot. This allows us to realize fast and compact homomorphic encryption for integer plaintexts. In fact, our benchmark results indicate that our decomposition ring homomorphic encryption schemes are several times faster than HElib for integer plaintexts due to its higher parallel computation.

    Sequences that attain the smallest possible absolute sidelobes (SPASs) of periodic autocorrelation function (PACF) play fairly important roles in synchronization of communication systems, Large scale integrated circuit testing, and so on. This letter presents an approach to construct 16-QAM sequences of even periods, based on the known quaternary sequences. A relationship between the PACFs of 16-QAM and quaternary sequences is established, by which when quaternary sequences that attain the SPASs of PACF are employed, the proposed 16-QAM sequences have good PACF.

    This paper proposes a dual-band dual-rectangular-loop circular polarization antenna for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs). The proposed antenna combines two large outer rectangular loops with two small inner loops. Each large outer loop is connected to its corresponding small inner rectangular loop. Each loop has gaps located symmetrically with respect to a feed point to produce Right Handed Circular Polarization (RHCP). The gap position and the shape of the rectangular loops are very important to adjust both the impedance matching and circular polarization characteristics. The proposed antenna offers dual-band Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) and Axial Ratio (AR) frequency characteristics that include the L1 (1575.42 MHz) and L2 (1227.60 MHz) bands. The antenna gains exceed 8.7 dBi. Broad AR elevation patterns are obtained. These antenna characteristics are well suited to precise positioning.

    The windowed interpolation DFT methods have been utilized to estimate the parameters of a single frequency and multi-frequency signal. Nevertheless, they do not work well for the real-valued sinusoids with closely spaced positive- and negative- frequency. In this paper, we describe a novel three-point windowed interpolation DFT method for frequency measurement of real-valued sinusoid signal. The exact representation of the windowed DFT with maximum sidelobe decay window (MSDW) is constructed. The spectral superposition of positive- and negative-frequency is considered and calculated to improve the estimation performance. The simulation results match with the theoretical values well. In addition, computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides high estimation accuracy and good noise suppression capability.

    This paper proposes a novel multi-exposure image fusion (MEF) scheme for single-shot high dynamic range imaging with spatially varying exposures (SVE). Single-shot imaging with SVE enables us not only to produce images without color saturation regions from a single-shot image, but also to avoid ghost artifacts in the producing ones. However, the number of exposures is generally limited to two, and moreover it is difficult to decide the optimum exposure values before the photographing. In the proposed scheme, a scene segmentation method is applied to input multi-exposure images, and then the luminance of the input images is adjusted according to both of the number of scenes and the relationship between exposure values and pixel values. The proposed method with the luminance adjustment allows us to improve the above two issues. In this paper, we focus on dual-ISO imaging as one of single-shot imaging. In an experiment, the proposed scheme is demonstrated to be effective for single-shot high dynamic range imaging with SVE, compared with conventional MEF schemes with exposure compensation.

    Modern code review is a well-known practice to assess the quality of software where developers discuss the quality in a web-based review tool. However, this lightweight approach may risk an inefficient review participation, especially when comments becomes either excessive (i.e., too many) or underwhelming (i.e., too few). In this study, we investigate the phenomena of reviewer commenting. Through a large-scale empirical analysis of over 1.1 million reviews from five OSS systems, we conduct an exploratory study to investigate the frequency, size, and evolution of reviewer commenting. Moreover, we also conduct a modeling study to understand the most important features that potentially drive reviewer comments. Our results find that (i) the number of comments and the number of words in the comments tend to vary among reviews and across studied systems; (ii) reviewers change their behaviours in commenting over time; and (iii) human experience and patch property aspects impact the number of comments and the number of words in the comments.

    SPHINCS+, an updated version of SPHINCS, is a post-quantum hash-based signature scheme submitted to the NIST post-quantum cryptography standardization project. To evaluate its performance, SPHINCS+ gives the theoretical number of function calls and the actual runtime of a reference implementation. We show that the theoretical number of function calls for SPHINCS+ verification is inconsistent with the runtime and then present the correct number of function calls.

    It is generally believed that jamming signals similar to communication signals tend to demonstrate better jamming effects. We believe that the above conclusion only works in certain situations. To select the correct jamming scheme for a multi-level quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) signal in a complex environment, an optimal jamming method based on orthogonal decomposition (OD) is proposed. The method solves the jamming problem from the perspective of the in-phase dimension and quadrature dimension and exhibits a better jamming effect than normal methods. The method can construct various unconventional jamming schemes to cope with a complex environment and verify the existing jamming schemes. The Experimental results demonstrate that when the jammer ideally knows the received power at the receiver, the proposed method will always have the optimal jamming effects, and the constructed unconventional jamming scheme has an excellent jamming effect compared with normal schemes in the case of a constellation distortion.

    As a generalization of perfect nonlinear (PN) functions, zero-difference balanced (ZDB) functions play an important role in coding theory, cryptography and communications engineering. Inspired by a foregoing work of Liu et al. [1], we present a class of ZDB functions with new parameters based on the cyclotomy in finite fields. Employing these ZDB functions, we obtain simultaneously optimal constant composition codes and perfect difference systems of sets.

    In millimeter wave (mmWave) vehicular communications, multi-hop relay disconnection by line-of-sight (LOS) blockage is a critical problem, particularly in the early diffusion phase of mmWave-available vehicles, where not all vehicles have mmWave communication devices. This paper proposes a distributed position control method to establish long relay paths through road side units (RSUs). This is realized by a scheme via which autonomous vehicles change their relative positions to communicate with each other via LOS paths. Even though vehicles with the proposed method do not use all the information of the environment and do not cooperate with each other, they can decide their action (e.g., lane change and overtaking) and form long relays only using information of their surroundings (e.g., surrounding vehicle positions). The decision-making problem is formulated as a Markov decision process such that autonomous vehicles can learn a practical movement strategy for making long relays by a reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm. This paper designs a learning algorithm based on a sophisticated deep reinforcement learning algorithm, asynchronous advantage actor-critic (A3C), which enables vehicles to learn a complex movement strategy quickly through its deep-neural-network architecture and multi-agent-learning mechanism. Once the strategy is well trained, vehicles can move independently to establish long relays and connect to the RSUs via the relays. Simulation results confirm that the proposed method can increase the relay length and coverage even if the traffic conditions and penetration ratio of mmWave communication devices in the learning and operation phases are different.

    In racetrack memories (RM), a position error (insertion or deletion error) results from unstable data reading. For position errors in RM with multiple read-heads (RHs), we propose a protograph-based LDPC coded system specified by a protograph and a protograph-aware permutation. The protograph-aware permutation facilitates the design and analysis of the coded system. By solving a multi-objective optimization problem, the coded system attains the properties of fast convergence decoding, a good decoding threshold, and a linear minimum distance growth. In addition, the coded system can adapt to varying numbers of RHs without any modification. The asymptotic decoding thresholds with a limited number of iterations verify the good properties of the system. Furthermore, for varying numbers of RHs, the simulation results with both small and large number of iterations, exhibit excellent decoding performances, both with short and long block lengths, and without error floors.

    As a research hotspot and difficulty in the field of computer vision, pedestrian detection has been widely used in intelligent driving and traffic monitoring. The popular detection method at present uses region proposal network (RPN) to generate candidate regions, and then classifies the regions. But the RPN produces many erroneous candidate areas, causing region proposals for false positives to increase. This letter uses improved residual attention network to capture the visual attention map of images, then normalized to get the attention score map. The attention score map is used to guide the RPN network to generate more precise candidate regions containing potential target objects. The region proposals, confidence scores, and features generated by the RPN are used to train a cascaded boosted forest classifier to obtain the final results. The experimental results show that our proposed approach achieves highly competitive results on the Caltech and ETH datasets.

    Positioning information plays a significant role in multi-unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) applications. Traditionally, the positioning information is widely provided by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) due to its good performance and global coverage. However, owing to complicated flight environment or signal blockage, jamming and unintentional interference, the UAVs may fail to locate themselves by using GNSS alone. As a new method to resolve these problems, cooperative positioning, by incorporating peer-to-peer range measurements and assisted information, has attracted more and more attentions due to its ability to enhance the accuracy and availability of positioning. However, achieving good performance of cooperative positioning of multi-UAVs is challenging as their mobility, arbitrary nonlinear state-evolution, measurement models and limited computation and communication resources. In this paper, we present a factor graph (FG) representation and message passing methodology to solve cooperative positioning problem among UAVs in 3-dimensional environment where GNSS cannot provide services. Moreover, to deal with the nonlinear state-evolution and measurement models while decreasing the computation complexity and communication cost, we develop a distributed algorithm for dynamic and hybrid UAVs by means of Spherical-Radial Cubature Rules (CR) method with belief propagation (BP) and variational message passing (VMP) methods (CRBP-VMP) on the FG. The proposed CRBP deals with the highly non-linear state-evolution models and non-Gaussian distributions, the VMP method is employed for ranging message, gets the simpler message representation and can reduce communication cost in the joint estimation problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the higher positioning accuracy, the better convergence as well as low computational complexity and communication cost of the proposed CRBP-VMP algorithm, which can be achieved compared with sum-product algorithm over a wireless network (SPAWN) and traditional Cubature Kalman Filters (CKF) method.

    In order to operate an ambulance efficiently, we developed a Smart Ambulance Approach Alarm System using smartphone, by notifying the approach of an ambulance to other vehicles on public roads. The position information of ambulances has not been opened in view of development costs and privacy protection. Therefore, our study opens the position information inexpensively by loading commodity smartphones, not special devices, into ambulances. The position information is made to be open as minimum necessary information by our developed cloud server application, considering dynamic state of other vehicles on public roads and privacy of ambulance service users. We tested the functional efficiency of this system by the demonstration experiment on public roads.

    The security of elliptic curve cryptography is closely related to the computational complexity of the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP). Today, the best practical attacks against ECDLP are exponential-time generic discrete logarithm algorithms such as Pollard's rho method. A recent line of inquiry in index calculus for ECDLP started by Semaev, Gaudry, and Diem has shown that, under certain heuristic assumptions, such algorithms could lead to subexponential attacks to ECDLP. In this study, we investigate the computational complexity of ECDLP for elliptic curves in various forms — including Hessian, Montgomery, (twisted) Edwards, and Weierstrass representations — using index calculus. Using index calculus, we aim to determine whether there is any significant difference in the computational complexity of ECDLP for elliptic curves in various forms. We provide empirical evidence and insight showing an affirmative answer in this paper.

Therefore, a simple algorithm for using received signal strength (RSS) has been developed so that position estimation can be performed in real time, and the performance is evaluated by performing three-dimensional localization with eight receiving antennas.

    Due to progressing process technology, yield of chips is reduced by timing violation caused by delay variation of gates and wires in fabrication. Recently, post-silicon delay tuning, which inserts programmable delay elements (PDEs) into clock trees before the fabrication and adjusts the delays of the PDEs to recover the timing violation after the fabrication, is promising to improve the yield. Although post-silicon delay tuning improves the yield, it increases circuit area and power consumption since the PDEs are inserted. In this paper, a PDE structure is taken into consideration to reduce the circuit area and the power consumption. Moreover, a delay selection algorithm, and a clustering method, in which some PDEs are merged into a PDE and the PDE is inserted for multiple registers, are proposed to reduce the circuit area and the power consumption. In computational experiments, the proposed method reduced the circuit area and the power consumption in comparison with an existing method.

    This paper presents a conifer and broad-leaf tree classification scheme that processes high resolution polarimetric synthetic aperture data above X-band. To validate the proposal, fully polarimetric measurements are conducted in a precisely controlled environment to examine the difference between the scattering mechanisms of conifer and broad-leaf trees at 15GHz. With 3.75cm range resolution, scattering matrices of two tree types were measured by a vector network analyzer. Polarimetric analyses using the 4-component scattering power decomposition and alpha-bar angle of eigenvalue decomposition yielded clear distinction between the two tree types. This scheme was also applied to an X-band Pi-SAR2 data set. The results confirm that it is possible to distinguish between tree types using fully polarimetric and high-resolution data above X-band.
