In the plane wave scattering from a periodic grating high order diffracted plane waves disappear at a low grazing angle limit of incidence. In this paper the scattering of a beam wave by the end-face of an ordered waveguide system composed of identical cores of equal space is treated by the perturbation method and the scattered field is analytically derived. The possibility that high order diffracted beam waves remain at a low grazing angle limit of incidence is shown.

In this letter, robust sparse signal recovery is considered in the presence of heavy-tailed impulsive noise. Two Bayesian approaches are developed where a Bayesian framework is constructed by utilizing the Laplace distribution to model the noise. By rewriting the noise-fitting term as a reweighted quadratic function which is optimized in the sparse signal space, the Type I Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) approach is proposed. Next, by exploiting the hierarchical structure of the sparse prior and the likelihood function, we develop the Type II Evidence Maximization approach optimized in the hyperparameter space. The numerical results verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods in the presence of impulsive noise.

In this paper, we propose a low-complexity widely-linear minimum mean square error (WL-MMSE) signal detection based on the Chebyshev polynomials accelerated symmetric successive over relaxation (SSORcheb) algorithm for uplink (UL) over-loaded large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The technique of utilizing Chebyshev acceleration not only speeds up the convergence rate significantly, and maximizes the data throughput, but also reduces the cost. By utilizing the random matrix theory, we present good estimates for the Chebyshev acceleration parameters of the proposed signal detection in real large-scale MIMO systems. Simulation results demonstrate that the new WL-SSORcheb-MMSE detection not only outperforms the recently proposed linear iterative detection, and the optimal polynomial expansion (PE) WL-MMSE detection, but also achieves a performance close to the exact WL-MMSE detection. Additionally, the proposed detection offers superior sum rate and bit error rate (BER) performance compared to the precision MMSE detection with substantially fewer arithmetic operations in a short coherence time. Therefore, the proposed detection can satisfy the high-density and high-mobility requirements of some of the emerging wireless networks, such as, the high-mobility Internet of Things (IoT) networks.

This paper deals with the scattering of a cylindrical wave by a perfectly conductive periodic surface. This problem is equivalent to finding the Green's function G(x,z|xs,zs), where (x,z) and (xs,zs) are the observation and radiation source positions above the periodic surface, respectively. It is widely known that the Green's function satisfies the reciprocity: G(x,z|xs,zs)=G(xs,zs|x,z), where G(xs,zs|x,z) is named the reversal Green's function in this paper. So far, there is no numerical method to synthesize the Green's function with the reciprocal property in the grating theory. By combining the shadow theory, the reciprocity theorem for scattering factors and the average filter introduced previously, this paper gives a new numerical method to synthesize the Green's function with reciprocal property. The reciprocity means that any properties of the Green's function can be obtained from the reversal Green's function. Taking this fact, this paper obtains several new formulae on the radiation and scattering from the reversal Green's function, such as a spectral representation of the Green's function, an asymptotic expression of the Green's function in the far region, the angular distribution of radiation power, the total power of radiation and the relative error of power balance. These formulae are simple and easy to use. Numerical examples are given for a very rough periodic surface. Several properties of the radiation and scattering are calculated for a transverse magnetic (TM) case and illustrated in figures.

The sound power level is a physical quantity indispensable for evaluating the amount of sound energy radiated from electrical and mechanical apparatuses. The precise determination of the sound power level requires the qualification of the measurement environment, such as a hemi-anechoic room, by estimating the deviation of the sound pressure level from the inverse-square law. In this respect, Annex A of ISO 3745 specifies the procedure for room qualification and defines a tolerance limit for the directivity of the sound source, which is used for the qualification. However, it is impractical to prepare a special loudspeaker only for room qualification. Thus, we developed a simulation method to investigate the influence of the sound source directivity on the measured deviation of the sound pressure level from the inverse-square law by introducing a quantitative index for the influence of the directivity. In this study, type 4202 reference sound source by Brüel & Kjær was used as a directional sound source because it has been widely used as a reference standard for the measurement of sound power levels. We experimentally obtained the directivity of the sound source by measuring the sound pressure level over the measurement surface. Moreover, the proposed method was applied to the qualification of several hemi-anechoic rooms, and we discussed the availability of a directional sound source for the process. Analytical results showed that available reference sound sources may be used for the evaluation of hemi-anechoic rooms depending on the sound energy absorption coefficient of the inner wall, the directionality of the microphone traverse, and the size of the space to be qualified. In other words, the results revealed that a reference sound source that is once quantified by the proposed method can be used for qualifying hemi-anechoic rooms.

In order to cope with severe interference in heterogeneous networks, this paper proposes a semi-blind interference cancellation scheme, which does not require multiple receive antennas or knowledge about training sequences of the interfering signals. The proposed scheme performs joint channel estimation and signal detection (JCESD) during the training period in order to blindly estimate channels of the interfering signals. On the other hand, maximum likelihood detection (MLD), which can be considered the optimum JCESD, must perform channel estimation for all transmitted signal candidates of the interfering signals and must search for the most likely signal candidate. Therefore, MLD incurs a prohibitive amount of computational complexity. To reduce such complexity drastically, the proposed scheme enhances the quantized channel approach, and applies the enhanced version to JCESD. In addition, a recalculation scheme is introduced to avoid inaccurate channel estimates due to local minima. Using the estimated channels, the proposed scheme performs multiuser detection (MUD) of the data sequences in order to cancel the interference. Computer simulations show that the proposed scheme outperforms a conventional scheme based on the Viterbi algorithm, and can achieve almost the same average bit error rate performance as the MUD with channels estimated from sufficiently long training sequences of both the desired signal and the interfering signals, while reducing the computational complexity significantly compared with full search involving all interfering signal candidates during the training period.

This paper discusses a mode for pseudorandom functions (PRFs) based on the hashing mode of Lesamnta-LW and the domain extension called Merkle-Damgård with permutation (MDP). The hashing mode of Lesamnta-LW is a plain Merkle-Damgård iteration of a block cipher with its key size half of its block size. First, a PRF mode is presented which produces multiple independent PRFs with multiple permutations and initialization vectors if the underlying block cipher is a PRP. Then, two applications of the PRF mode are presented. One is a PRF with minimum padding. Here, padding is said to be minimum if the produced message blocks do not include message blocks only with the padded sequence for any non-empty input message. The other is a vector-input PRF using the PRFs with minimum padding.

Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) is a cryptographic primitive that is based on physical property of each entity or Integrated Circuit (IC) chip. It is expected that PUF be used in security applications such as ID generation and authentication. Some responses from PUF are unreliable, and they are usually discarded. In this paper, we propose a new PUF-based authentication system that exploits information of unreliable responses. In the proposed method, each response is categorized into multiple classes by its unreliability evaluated by feeding the same challenges several times. This authentication system is named Q-class authentication, where Q is the number of classes. We perform experiments assuming a challenge-response authentication system with a certain threshold of errors. Considering 4-class separation for 4-1 Double Arbiter PUF, it is figured out that the advantage of a legitimate prover against a clone is improved form 24% to 36% in terms of success rate. In other words, it is possible to improve the tolerance of machine-learning attack by using unreliable information that was previously regarded disadvantageous to authentication systems.

In this study, toward the development of smartphone-based monitoring system for life logging, we collect over 1,400 hours of data by recording including both the outdoor and indoor daily activities of 19 subjects, under practical conditions with a smartphone and a small camera. We then construct a huge human activity database which consists of an environmental sound signal, triaxial acceleration signals and manually annotated activity tags. Using our constructed database, we evaluate the activity recognition performance of deep neural networks (DNNs), which have achieved great performance in various fields, and apply DNN-based adaptation techniques to improve the performance with only a small amount of subject-specific training data. We experimentally demonstrate that; 1) the use of multi-modal signal, including environmental sound and triaxial acceleration signals with a DNN is effective for the improvement of activity recognition performance, 2) the DNN can discriminate specified activities from a mixture of ambiguous activities, and 3) DNN-based adaptation methods are effective even if only a small amount of subject-specific training data is available.

Deterministic ID-based signatures are digital signatures where secret keys are probabilistically generated by a key generation center while the signatures are generated deterministically. Although the deterministic ID-based signatures are useful for both systematic and cryptographic applications, to the best of our knowledge, there is no scheme with a tight reduction proof. Loosely speaking, since the security is downgraded through dependence on the number of queries by an adversary, a tighter reduction for the security of a scheme is desirable, and this reduction must be as close to the difficulty of its underlying hard problem as possible. In this work, we discuss mathematical features for a tight reduction of deterministic ID-based signatures, and show that the scheme by Selvi et al. (IWSEC 2011) is tightly secure by our new proof framework under a selective security model where a target identity is designated in advance. Our proof technique is versatile, and hence a reduction cost becomes tighter than the original proof even under an adaptive security model. We furthermore improve the scheme by Herranz (The Comp. Jour., 2006) to prove tight security in the same manner as described above. We furthermore construct an aggregate signature scheme with partial aggregation, which is a key application of deterministic ID-based signatures, from the improved scheme.

Feature visualization is of great significances in volume visualization, and feature extraction has been becoming extremely popular in feature visualization. While precise definition of features is usually absent which makes the extraction difficult. This paper employs probability density function (PDF) as statistical property, and proposes a statistical property guided approach to extract features for volume data. Basing on feature matching, it combines simple liner iterative cluster (SLIC) with Gaussian mixture model (GMM), and could do extraction without accurate feature definition. Further, GMM is paired with a normality test to reduce time cost and storage requirement. We demonstrate its applicability and superiority by successfully applying it on homogeneous and non-homogeneous features.

Regular expression matching is essential in network and big-data applications; however, it still has a serious performance bottleneck. The state-of-the-art schemes use a multi-pattern exact string-matching algorithm as a filtering module placed before a heavy regular expression engine. We design a new approximate string-matching filter using multiple q-grams; this filter not only achieves better space compactness, but it also has higher throughput than the existing filters.

Today's enterprise, data-center, and internet-service-provider networks deploy different types of network devices, including switches, routers, and middleboxes such as network address translation and firewalls. These devices are vertically integrated monolithic systems. Software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) are promising technologies for dis-aggregating vertically integrated systems into components by using “softwarization”. Software-defined networking separates the control plane from the data plane of switch and router, while NFV decouples high-layer service functions (SFs) or Network Functions (NFs) implemented in the data plane of a middlebox and enables the innovation of policy implementation by using SF chaining. Even though there have been several survey studies in this area, this area is continuing to grow rapidly. In this paper, we present a recent survey of this area. In particular, we survey research activities in the areas of re-architecting middleboxes, state management, high-performance platforms, service chaining, resource management, and trouble shooting. Efforts in these research areas will enable the development of future virtual-network-function platforms and innovation in service management while maintaining acceptable capital and operational expenditure.

This paper presents a calibration method for RF switch channels of a near-range multistatic linear array radar. The method allows calibration of the channel transfer functions of the RF switches and antenna transfer functions in frequency domain data, without disconnecting the antennas from the radar system. In addition, the calibration of the channels is independent of the directivities of the transmitting and receiving antennas. We applied the calibration method to a 3D imaging step-frequency radar system at 10-20GHz suitable for the nondestructive inspection of the walls of wooden houses. The measurement range of the radar is limited to 0-240mm, shorter than the antenna array length 480mm. This radar system allows acquiring 3D imaging data with a single scan. Using synthetic aperture radar processing, the structural health of braces inside the walls of wooden houses can be evaluated from the obtained 3D volume images. Based on experiment results, we confirmed that the proposed calibration method significantly improves the subsurface 3D imaging quality. Low intensity ghost images behind the brace target were suppressed, deformations of the target in the volume image were rectified and errors the range distance were corrected.

This paper describes the design and measurements of two-gain-mode MMIC power amplifier modules (PAMs) for Band 1 and Band 5 WCDMA data communications. The PAMs are based on the two-stage single-chain amplifier topology with an L-shaped FET step attenuator (ATT) placed at the interstage, featuring not only high-efficiency operation but also both a small phase discontinuity and a small input return loss variation between the two gain modes: a high-gain mode (0-dB thru state for the ATT) and a low-gain mode (14-dB attenuation state for the ATT). The PAMs are assembled on a 3 mm × 3 mm FR-4 laminate together with several surface mount devices, and a high-directivity, 20-dB bilayer-type directional coupler is integrated on the laminate for accurate forward-power monitoring even under a 2.5:1-VSWR load mismatching condition. To validate the design and analysis for the PAMs using the L-shaped ATT, two PAM products — a Band 1 PAM and a Band 5 PAM — were fabricated using our in-house GaAs-BiFET process. The main RF measurements under the condition of a WCDMA (R99) modulated signal and a 3.4-V supply voltage are as follows. The Band 1 PAM can deliver a power-added efficiency (PAE) as high as 46% at an output power (Pout) of 28.25 dBm while maintaining a ±5-MHz-offset adjacent channel power ratio (ACLR1) of approximately -40 dBc or less and a small phase discontinuity of less than 5°. The Band 5 PAM can also deliver a high PAE of 46% at the same Pout and ACLR1 levels with small phase discontinuity of less than 4°. This small discontinuity is due to the phase-shift compensation capacitance embedded in the ATT. The measured input return loss is well maintained at better than 10 dB at the two modes. In addition, careful coupler design achieves a small detection error of less than 0.5 dB even under a 2.5:1-VSWR load mismatching condition.

The problem of E-polarized plane wave diffraction by a thin material strip is analyzed using the Wiener-Hopf technique together with approximate boundary conditions. Exact and high-frequency asymptotic solutions are obtained. Our final solution is valid for the case where the strip thickness is small and the strip width is large in comparison to the wavelength. The scattered field is evaluated asymptotically based on the saddle point method and a far field expression is derived. Numerical examples on the radar cross section (RCS) are presented for various physical parameters and the scattering characteristics of the strip are discussed in detail.

Transient scattering by a metal cylinder covered with inhomogeneous lossy material is analyzed for application of radar systems to nondestructive testing of reinforced concrete structures. First, inhomogeneous lossy material that is a model of corrosion by rust is approximated by a cylindrical multilayered medium, and analytic solution of a scattered field in frequency domain is derived. Next, time domain scattering response is calculated from the frequency domain data by using the inverse Fourier transform. Numerical results of pulse responses indicate that corrosion rate of the concrete can be evaluated by checking the waveform distortion of the pulse responses.

The study of universal detector for fingerprinting code is strongly dependent on the design of scoring function. The optimal detector is known as MAP detector that calculates an optimal correlation score for a given single user's codeword. However, the knowledge about the number of colluders and their collusion strategy are inevitable. In this paper, we propose a new scoring function that equalizes the bias between symbols of codeword, which is called bias equalizer. We further investigate an efficient scoring function based on the bias equalizer under the relaxed marking assumption such that white Gaussian noise is added to a pirated codeword. The performance is compared with the MAP detector as well as some state-of-the-art scoring functions.
