In the paper, a technique of the numerical inversion of multidimensional Laplace transforms (nD NILT), based on a complex Fourier series approximation is elaborated in light of a possible ralative error achievable. The detailed error analysis shows a relationship between the numerical integration of a multifold Bromwich integral and a complex Fourier series approximation, and leads to a novel formula relating the limiting relative error to the nD NILT technique parameters.

This paper introduces a future and past search engine, ChronoSeeker, which can help users to develop long-term strategies for their organizations. To provide on-demand searches, we tackled two technical issues: (1) organizing efficient event searches and (2) filtering out noises from search results. Our system employed query expansion with typical expressions related to event information such as year expressions, temporal modifiers, and context terms for efficient event searches. We utilized a machine-learning technique of filtering noise to classify candidates into information or non-event information, using heuristic features and lexical patterns derived from a text-mining approach. Our experiment revealed that filtering achieved an 85% F-measure, and that query expansion could collect dozens more events than those without expansion.

A broadband cruciform substrate integrated waveguide coupler is designed based on the planar circuit approach. The broadband property is obtained by widening the crossed region in the same way as rectangular waveguide cruciform couplers. As a result, a 3 dB coupler with fractional bandwidth of 30% is realized at 24 GHz.

In a rooted triangulated planar graph, an outer vertex and two outer edges incident to it are designated as its root, respectively. Two plane embeddings of rooted triangulated planar graphs are defined to be equivalent if they admit an isomorphism such that the designated roots correspond to each other. Given a positive integer n, we give an O(n)-space and O(1)-time delay algorithm that generates all biconnected rooted triangulated planar graphs with at most n vertices without delivering two reflectively symmetric copies.

In a rooted graph, a vertex is designated as its root. An outerplanar graph is represented by a plane embedding such that all vertices appear along its outer boundary. Two different plane embeddings of a rooted outerplanar graphs are called symmetric copies. Given integers n ≥ 3 and g ≥ 3, we give an O(n)-space and O(1)-time delay algorithm that generates all biconnected rooted outerplanar graphs with exactly n vertices such that the size of each inner face is at most g without delivering two symmetric copies of the same graph.
The Laplacian support vector machine (LSVM) is a semi-supervised framework that uses manifold regularization for learning from labeled and unlabeled data. However, the optimal kernel parameters of LSVM are difficult to obtain. In this paper, we propose a multi-kernel LSVM (MK-LSVM) method using multi-kernel learning formulations in combination with the LSVM. Our learning formulations assume that a set of base kernels are grouped, and employ l2 norm regularization for automatically seeking the optimal linear combination of base kernels. Experimental testing reveals that our method achieves better performance than the LSVM alone using synthetic data, the UCI Machine Learning Repository, and the Caltech database of Generic Object Classification.

A half-cylindrical BK-7 prism/dielectric film with a grating/Ag film/fluorescent polymer film structure was prepared, and its surface plasmon (SP) excitation property was investigated. It was confirmed experimentally that SP excitations are possible in this structure by using prism and grating couplings. The SP excitation property depended on the direction of the grating vector. Furthermore, intense photoluminescence was observed when the SPs were simultaneously excited at the Ag/polymer interface by prism coupling and at the Cytop/Ag interface by grating coupling.

Recently enhancing the visual experience of the user has been a new trend for TV displays. This trend comes from the fact that changes of ambient illuminations while viewing a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) significantly affect human impressions. However, psychological effects caused by the combination of displayed video image and ambient illuminations have not been investigated. In the present research, we clarify the relationship between ambient illuminations and psychological effects while viewing video image displayed on the LCD by using a questionnaire based semantic differential (SD) method and a factor analysis method. Six kinds of video images were displayed under different colors and layouts of illumination conditions and rated by 15 observers. According to the analysis, it became clear that the illumination control around the LCD with displayed video image, the feeling of 'activity' and 'evaluating' were rated higher than the feeling of fluorescent ceiling condition. In particular, simultaneous illumination control around the display and the ceiling enhanced the feeling of 'activity,' and 'evaluating' with keeping 'comfort.' Moreover, the feeling of 'activity' under the illumination control around the LCD and the ceiling condition while viewing music video image was rated clearly higher than that with natural scene video image.
Fractal structures emerge from statistical and hierarchical processes in urban development or network evolution. In a class of efficient and robust geographical networks, we derive the size distribution of layered areas, and estimate the fractal dimension by using the distribution without huge computations. This method can be applied to self-similar tilings based on a stochastic process.

The wireless robotic sensor network (WRSN) is a combination of a mobile robot and wireless sensor networks. In WRSN, robots perform high-level missions such as human rescue, exploration in dangerous areas, and maintenance and repair of unmanned networks in cooperation with surrounding sensor nodes. In such a network, robots should move to the accident site as soon as possible. This paper proposes a distance-aware robot routing (DAR) algorithm, which focuses on how to pick the shortest path for the mobile robot by considering characteristics different from packet routing. Simulations are performed to demonstrate the benefits of using the proposed algorithm.
In this paper we unveil basic properties of a code Γq for digital fingerprinting based on a projective plane of order q. We consider a situation where a coalition of malicious users generates a pirated digital content in which a binary sequence w is embedded subject to the marking assumption. Here, the size of the coalition is assumed to be less than or equal to a known constant c ≥ 2. We evaluate the number of candidates of the coalition that can also generate w subject to the marking assumption. It is shown that the number of such candidates is completely determined as a function of w for the case of c = 2. In addition, we give a sufficient condition under which all the malicious users are correctly identified from w for the case of c ≥ 3. Relationships between Γq and other existing classes of codes are discussed as well.

The logic mapping problem and the problem of finding a largest sub-crossbar with no defects in a nano-crossbar with nonprogrammable-crosspoint defects and disconnected-wire defects are known to be NP-hard. This paper shows that for nano-crossbars with only disconnected-wire defects, the former remains NP-hard, while the latter can be solved in polynomial time.
Biometric authentication has attracted attention because of its high security and convenience. However, biometric feature such as fingerprint can not be revoked like passwords. Thus once the biometric data of a user stored in the system has been compromised, it can not be used for authentication securely for his/her whole life long. To address this issue, an authentication scheme called cancelable biometrics has been studied. However, there remains a major challenge to achieve both strong security and practical accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel and fundamental algorithm for cancelable biometrics called correlation-invariant random filtering (CIRF) with provable security. Then we construct a method for generating cancelable fingerprint templates based on the chip matching algorithm and the CIRF. Experimental evaluation shows that our method has almost the same accuracy as the conventional fingerprint verification based on the chip matching algorithm.

In this paper we first demonstrate that effective selection functions in power analysis attacks change depending on circuit architectures of a block cipher. We then conclude that the most resistant architecture on its own, in the case of the loop architecture, has two data registers have separate roles: one for storing the plaintext and ciphertext, and the other for storing intermediate values. There, the pre-whitening operation is placed at the output of the former register. The architecture allows the narrowest range of selection functions and thereby has resistance against ordinary CPA. Thus, we can easily defend against attacks by ordinary CPA at the architectural level, whereas we cannot against DPA. Secondly, we propose a new technique called "self-templates" in order to raise the accuracy of evaluation of DPA-based attacks. Self-templates enable to differentiate meaningful selection functions for DPA-based attacks without any strong assumption as in the template attack. We also present the results of attacks to an AES co-processor on an ASIC and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Device mismatch plays an important role in the design of accurate analog circuits. The common centroid structure is commonly employed to reduce device mismatches caused by symmetrical layouts and processing gradients. Among the candidate placements generated by the common centroid approach, however, whichever achieves better matching is generally difficult to be determined without performing the time-consuming yield evaluation process. In addition, this rule-based methodology makes it difficult to achieve acceptable matching between multiple capacitors and to handle an irregular layout area. Based on a spatial correlation model, this study proposed a design methodology for yield enhancement of analog circuits using switched-capacitor techniques. An efficient and effective placement generator is developed to derive a placement for a circuit to achieve the highest or near highest correlation coefficient and thus accomplishing a better yield performance. A simple yield analysis is also developed to evaluate the achieved yield performance of a derived placement. Results show that the proposed methodology derives a placement which achieves better yield performance than those generated by the common centroid approach.

This paper presents a novel regularity evaluation of placement structure and techniques for handling conditional design rules along with dynamic diffusion sharing and well island generation, which are developed based on Sequence-Pair. The regular structures such as topological rows, arrays and repetitive structures are characterized by the way of forming sub-sequences of a sequence-pair. A placement objective is formulated balancing the regularity and the area efficiency. Furthermore, diffusion sharing and well island can be also identified looking into forming of a sequence-pair. In experiments, we applied our regularity-oriented placement mixed with the constraint-driven technique to real analog designs, and attained the results comparable to manual designs even when imposing symmetry constraints. Besides, the results also revealed the regularity serves to increase row-structures applicable to the diffusion sharing for area saving and wire-length reduction.

The Firing Squad Synchronization Problem (FSSP), one of the most well-known problems related to cellular automata, was originally proposed by Myhill in 1957 and became famous through the work of Moore [1]. The first solution to this problem was given by Minsky and McCarthy [2] and a minimal time solution was given by Goto [3]. A significant amount of research has also dealt with variants of this problem. In this paper, from a theoretical interest, we will extend this problem to number patterns on a seven-segment display. Some of these problems can be generalized as the FSSP for some special trees called segment trees. The FSSP for segment trees can be reduced to a FSSP for a one-dimensional array divided evenly by joint cells that we call segment array. We will give algorithms to solve the FSSPs for this segment array and other number patterns, respectively. Moreover, we will clarify the minimal time to solve these problems and show that there exists no such solution.

We have analyzed the dominant noise sources in the driving circuit of an uncooled infrared radiation focal plane array fabricated on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrate by 0.35 µm CMOS technology and bulk- micromachining. We found no noise property of SOI-MOSFET inferior compared to those of NMOSs formed on SOI and bulk substrate, respectively. In addition, we reduced the total noise of the sensor chip by designing the current source NMOS sufficiently large, and optimized the operating current of pixel pn-junctions.

A planar inverted-E (PIE) antenna that can achieve a wide impedance bandwidth is proposed. The antenna is realized by inserting a branch capacitance between the feed line and the shorting pin of a conventional planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA). Such a modification significantly enhanced the impedance bandwidth while maintaining the antenna size. The proposed antenna possesses a very wide impedance bandwidth of 1250 MHz (1650-2900 MHz) at a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) <3. In addition, good radiation patterns were obtained at the desired frequency bands.
