This paper proposes a determination method of the cascaded number for lumped parameter models (LPMs) of the transmission lines. The LPM is used to simulate long-distance transmission lines, and the cascaded number significantly impacts the simulation results. Currently, there is a lack of a system-level determination method of the cascaded number for LPMs. Based on the theoretical analysis and eigenvalue decomposition of network matrix, this paper discusses the error in resonance characteristics between distributed parameter model and LPMs. Moreover, it is deduced that optimal cascaded numbers of the cascaded π-type and T-type LPMs are the same, and the Γ-type LPM has a lowest analog accuracy. The principle that the maximum simulation frequency is less than the first resonance frequency of each segment is presented. According to the principle, optimal cascaded numbers of cascaded π-type, T-type, and Γ-type LPMs are obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed determination method is verified by simulation.

Ising machines can find optimum or quasi-optimum solutions of combinatorial optimization problems efficiently and effectively. The graph coloring problem, which is one of the difficult combinatorial optimization problems, is to assign a color to each vertex of a graph such that no two vertices connected by an edge have the same color. Although methods to map the graph coloring problem onto the Ising model or quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) model are proposed, none of them considers minimizing the number of colors. In addition, there is no Ising-machine-based method considering additional constraints in order to apply to practical problems. In this paper, we propose a mapping method of the graph coloring problem including minimizing the number of colors and additional constraints to the QUBO model. As well as the constraint terms for the graph coloring problem, we firstly propose an objective function term that can minimize the number of colors so that the number of used spins cannot increase exponentially. Secondly, we propose two additional constraint terms: One is that specific vertices have to be colored with specified colors; The other is that specific colors cannot be used more than the number of times given in advance. We theoretically prove that, if the energy of the proposed QUBO mapping is minimized, all the constraints are satisfied and the objective function is minimized. The result of the experiment using an Ising machine showed that the proposed method reduces the number of used colors by up to 75.1% on average compared to the existing baseline method when additional constraints are not considered. Considering the additional constraints, the proposed method can effectively find feasible solutions satisfying all the constraints.

This paper introduces an inverter-based true random number generator (I-TRNG). It uses a single CMOS inverter to amplify thermal noise multiple times. An adaptive calibration mechanism based on clock tuning provides robust operation across a wide range of supply voltage 0.5∼1.1V and temperature -40∼140°C. An 8-bit Von-Neumann post-processing circuit (VN8W) is implemented for maximum raw entropy extraction. In a 130nm CMOS technology, the I-TRNG entropy source only occupies 635μm2 and consumes 0.016pJ/raw-bit at 0.6V. The I-TRNG occupies 13406μm2, including the entropy source, adaptive calibration circuit, and post-processing circuit. The minimum energy consumption of the I-TRNG is 1.38pJ/bit at 0.5V, while passing all NIST 800-22 and 800-90B tests. Moreover, an equivalent 15-year life at 0.7V, 25°C is confirmed by an accelerated NBTI aging test.

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is an antenna array signal processing technique used in, for instance, radar and sonar systems, source localization, and channel state information retrieval. As new applications and use cases appear with the development of next generation mobile communications systems, DOA estimation performance must be continually increased in order to support the nonstop growing demand for wireless technologies. In previous works, we verified that a deep neural network (DNN) trained offline is a strong candidate tool with the promise of achieving great on-grid DOA estimation performance, even compared to traditional algorithms. In this paper, we propose new techniques for further DOA estimation accuracy enhancement incorporating signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) prediction and an end-to-end DOA estimation system, which consists of three components: source number estimator, DOA angular spectrum grid estimator, and DOA detector. Here, we expand the performance of the DOA detector and angular spectrum estimator, and present a new solution for source number estimation based on DNN with very simple design. The proposed DNN system applied with said enhancement techniques has shown great estimation performance regarding the success rate metric for the case of two radio wave sources although not fully satisfactory results are obtained for the case of three sources.

This paper presents a design and an implementation of an on-line quality control method for a TRNG (True Random Number Generator) on an FPGA. It is based on a TRNG with RS latches and a temporal XOR corrector, which can make a trade-off between throughput and randomness quality by changing the number of accumulations by XOR. The goal of our method is to increase the throughput within the range of keeping the quality of output random numbers. In order to detect a sign of the loss of quality from the TRNG in parallel with random number generation, our method distinguishes random bitstrings to be tested from those to be output. The test bitstring is generated with the fewer number of accumulations than that of the output bitstring. The number of accumulations will be increased if the test bitstring fails in the randomness test. We designed and evaluated a prototype of on-line quality control system, using a Zynq-7000 FPGA SoC. The results indicate that the TRNG with the proposed method achieved 1.91-2.63 Mbits/s of throughput with 16 latches, following the change of the quality of output random numbers. The total number of logic elements in the prototype system with 16 latches was comparable to an existing system with 256 latches, without quality control capabilities.
This paper concentrates on a class of pseudorandom sequences generated by combining q-ary m-sequences and quadratic characters over a finite field of odd order, called binary generalized NTU sequences. It is shown that the relationship among the sub-sequences of binary generalized NTU sequences can be formulated as combinatorial structures called Hadamard designs. As a consequence, the combinatorial structures generalize the group structure discovered by Kodera et al. (IEICE Trans. Fundamentals, vol.E102-A, no.12, pp.1659-1667, 2019) and lead to a finite-geometric explanation for the investigated group structure.

To reduce mutual coupling of a two-level nested array (TLNA) with an even number of sensors, we propose an improved array configuration that exhibits all the good properties of the prototype optimal configuration under the constraint of a fixed number of sensors N and achieves reduction of mutual coupling. Compared with the prototype optimal TLNA (POTLNA), which inner level and outer level both have N/2 sensors, those of the improved optimal TLNA (IOTLNA) are N/2-1 and N/2+1. It is proved that the physical aperture and uniform degrees of freedom (uDOFs) of IOTLNA are the same as those of POTLNA, and the number of sensor pairs with small separations of IOTLNA is reduced. We also construct an improved optimal second-order super nested array (SNA) by using the IOTLNA as the parent nested array, termed IOTLNA-SNA, which has the same physical aperture and the same uDOFs, as well as the IOTLNA. Numerical simulations demonstrate the better performance of the improved array configurations.
In this paper, we study the number of failed components in a consecutive-k-out-of-n:G system. The distributions and expected values of the number of failed components when system is failed or working at a particular time t are evaluated. We also apply them to the optimization problems concerned with the optimal number of components and the optimal replacement time. Finally, we present the illustrative examples for the expected number of failed components and give the numerical results for the optimization problems.

This paper proposes two accurate source-number estimation methods for array antennas and multi-input multi-output radar. Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is important in high-speed wireless communication and radar imaging. Most representative DOA estimation methods require the source-number information in advance and often fail to estimate DOAs in severe environments such as those having low signal-to-noise ratio or large transmission-power difference. Received signals are often bandlimited or narrowband signals, so the proposed methods first involves denoising preprocessing by removing undesired components then comparing the original and denoised signal information. The performances of the proposed methods were evaluated through computer simulations.

We experimentally evaluated random number sequences generated by a superconducting hardware random number generator composed of a Josephson-junction oscillator, a rapid-single-flux-quantum (RSFQ) toggle flip-flop (TFF), and an RSFQ AND gate. Test circuits were fabricated using a 10 kA/cm2 Nb/AlOx/Nb integration process. Measurements were conducted in a liquid helium bath. The random numbers were generated for a trigger frequency of 500 kHz under the oscillating Josephson-junction at 29 GHz. 26 random number sequences of 20 kb length were evaluated for bias voltages between 2.0 and 2.7 mV. The NIST FIPS PUBS 140-2 tests were used for the evaluation. 100% pass rates were confirmed at the bias voltages of 2.5 and 2.6 mV. We found that the Monobit test limited the pass rates. As numerical simulations suggested, a detailed evaluation for the probability of obtaining “1” demonstrated the monotonical dependence on the bias voltage.

In this letter, the almost binary sequence (sequence with a single zero element) is considered as a special class of binary sequence. Four new bounds on the cross-correlation of balanced (almost) binary sequences with period Q ≡ 1(mod 4) under the precondition of out-of-phase autocorrelation values {-1} or {1, -3} are firstly presented. Then, seven new pairs of balanced (almost) binary sequences of period Q with ideal or optimal autocorrelation values and meeting the lower cross-correlation bounds are proposed by using cyclotomic classes of order 4. These new bounds of (almost) binary sequences with period Q achieve smaller maximum out-of-phase autocorrelation values and cross-correlation values.

We consider the coding problem for lossy source coding with side information at the decoder, which is known as the Wyner-Ziv source coding problem. The goal of the coding problem is to find the minimum rate such that the probability of exceeding a given distortion threshold is less than the desired level. We give an equivalent expression of the minimum rate by using the chromatic number and notions of covering of a set. This allows us to analyze the coding problem in terms of graph coloring and covering.
In secure multiparty computation (MPC), floating-point numbers should be handled in many potential applications, but these are basically expensive. In particular, for MPC based on secret sharing (SS), the floating-point addition takes many communication rounds though the addition is the most fundamental operation. In this paper, we propose an SS-based two-party protocol for floating-point addition with 13 rounds (for single/double precision numbers), which is much fewer than the milestone work of Aliasgari et al. in NDSS 2013 (34 and 36 rounds, respectively) and also fewer than the state of the art in the literature. Moreover, in contrast to the existing SS-based protocols which are all based on “roundTowardZero” rounding mode in the IEEE 754 standard, we propose another protocol with 15 rounds which is the first result realizing more accurate “roundTiesToEven” rounding mode. We also discuss possible applications of the latter protocol to secure Validated Numerics (a.k.a. Rigorous Computation) by implementing a simple example.
In this paper, the random numbers generated by a true random number generator, using the oscillator sampling method, are formulated using a renewal process, and this formulation is used to demonstrate the uniformity of the random numbers and the independence between different bits. Using our results, a lower bound for the speed of random number generation could easily be identified, according to the required statistical quality.

This paper proposes a method for cooperative multi-static Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) radar that can estimate the number of targets. The purpose of this system is to monitor humans in an indoor environment. First, target positions within the estimation range are roughly detected by the Capon method and the mode vector corresponding to the detected positions is calculated. The mode vector is multiplied by the eigenvector to eliminate the virtual image. The spectrum of the evaluation function is calculated from the remaining positions, and the number of peaks in the spectrum is defined as the number of targets. Experiments carried out in an indoor environment confirm that the proposed method can estimate the number of targets with high accuracy.

A universal interconnection network implements arbitrary interconnections among n terminals. This paper considers a problem to realize such a network using contact switches. When n=2, it can be implemented with a single switch. The number of different connections among n terminals is given by the Bell number B(n). The Bell number shows the total number of methods to partition n distinct elements. For n=2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, the corresponding Bell numbers are 2, 5, 15, 52, and 203, respectively. This paper shows a method to realize an n terminal universal interconnection network with $rac {3}{8}(n^2-1)$ contact switches when n=2m+1≥5, and $rac {n}{8}(3n+2)$ contact switches, when n=2m≥6. Also, it shows that a lower bound on the number of contact switches to realize an n-terminal universal interconnection network is ⌈log 2B(n)⌉, where B(n) is the Bell number.

In this paper, we describe a post-processing technique having high extraction efficiency (ExE) for de-biasing and de-correlating a random bitstream generated by true random number generators (TRNGs). This research is based on the N-bit von Neumann (VN_N) post-processing method. It improves the ExE of the original von Neumann method close to the Shannon entropy bound by a large N value. However, as the N value increases, the mapping table complexity increases exponentially (2N), which makes VN_N unsuitable for low-power TRNGs. To overcome this problem, at the algorithm level, we propose a waiting strategy to achieve high ExE with a small N value. At the architectural level, a Hamming weight mapping-based hierarchical structure is used to reconstruct the large mapping table using smaller tables. The hierarchical structure also decreases the correlation factor in the raw bitstream. To develop a technique with high ExE and low cost, we designed and fabricated an 8-bit von Neumann with waiting strategy (VN_8W) in a 130-nm CMOS. The maximum ExE of VN_8W is 62.21%, which is 2.49 times larger than the ExE of the original von Neumann. NIST SP 800-22 randomness test results proved the de-biasing and de-correlation abilities of VN_8W. As compared with the state-of-the-art optimized 7-element iterated von Neumann, VN_8W achieved more than 20% energy reduction with higher ExE. At 0.45V and 1MHz, VN_8W achieved the minimum energy of 0.18pJ/bit, which was suitable for sub-pJ low energy TRNGs.

In this paper, the distributed cooperative communication of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is studied, where the condition number (CN) and the inner product (InP) are used to measure the quality of communication links. By optimizing the relative position of UAVs, large channel capacity and stable communication links can be obtained. Using the spherical wave model under the line of sight (LOS) channel, CN expression of the channel matrix is derived when there are Nt transmitters and two receivers in the system. In order to maximize channel capacity, we derive the UAVs position constraint equation (UAVs-PCE), and the constraint between BS elements distance and carrier wavelength is analyzed. The result shows there is an area where no matter how the UAVs' positions are adjusted, the CN is still very large. Then a special scenario is considered where UAVs form a rectangular lattice array, and the optimal constraint between communication distance and UAVs distance is derived. After that, we derive the InP of channel matrix and the gradient expression of InP with respect to UAVs' position. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is used to minimize the CN and the gradient descent (GD) algorithm is used to minimize the InP by optimizing UAVs' position iteratively. Both of the two algorithms present great potentials for optimizing the CN and InP respectively. Furthermore, a hybrid algorithm named PSO-GD combining the advantage of the two algorithms is proposed to maximize the communication capacity with lower complexity. Simulations show that PSO-GD is more efficient than PSO and GD. PSO helps GD to break away from local extremum and provides better positions for GD, and GD can converge to an optimal solution quickly by using the gradient information based on the better positions. Simulations also reveal that a better channel can be obtained when those parameters satisfy the UAVs position constraint equation (UAVs-PCE), meanwhile, theory analysis also explains the abnormal phenomena in simulations.

Two-state number-conserving cellular automaton (NCCA) is a cellular automaton of which cell states are 0 or 1, and the total sum of all the states of cells is kept for any time step. It is a kind of particle-based modeling of physical systems. We introduce a new structure of its value-1 patterns, which we call a “bundle pair” and a “bundle quad”. By employing this structure, we show a relation between the neighborhood size n and n - 2 NCCAs.

The unlicensed spectrum has been utilized to make up the shortage on frequency spectrum in new radio (NR) systems. To fully exploit the advantages brought by the unlicensed bands, one of the key issues is to guarantee the fair coexistence with WiFi systems. To reach this goal, timely and accurate estimation on the WiFi traffic loads is an important prerequisite. In this paper, a machine learning (ML) based method is proposed to detect the number of WiFi users on the unlicensed bands. An unsupervised Neural Network (NN) structure is applied to filter the detected transmission collision probability on the unlicensed spectrum, which enables the NR users to precisely rectify the measurement error and estimate the number of active WiFi users. Moreover, NN is trained online and the related parameters and learning rate of NN are jointly optimized to estimate the number of WiFi users adaptively with high accuracy. Simulation results demonstrate that compared with the conventional Kalman Filter based detection mechanism, the proposed approach has lower complexity and can achieve a more stable and accurate estimation.
