In order to evaluate the goodness of frequency hopping (FH) sequence design, the periodic Hamming correlation function is used as an important measure. But aperiodic Hamming correlation of FH sequences matters in real applications, while it received little attraction in the literature compared with periodic Hamming correlation. In this paper, the new aperiodic Hamming correlation lower bounds for FH sequences, with respect to the size of the frequency slot set, the sequence length, the family size, the maximum aperiodic Hamming autocorrelation and the maximum aperiodic Hamming crosscorrelation are established. The new aperiodic bounds are tighter than the Peng-Fan bounds. In addition, the new bounds include the second powers of the maximum aperiodic Hamming autocorrelation and the maximum aperiodic Hamming crosscorrelation but the Peng-Fan bounds do not include them. For the given sequence length, the family size and the frequency slot set size, the values of the maximum aperiodic Hamming autocorrelation and the maximum aperiodic Hamming crosscorrelation are inside of an ellipse which is given by the new aperiodic bounds.

For a development of energy harvesting system, the fact of radio waves and ambient RF (Radio Frequency) sources, including passive devices along with novel circuits, are very closely related to mobile charging devices and energy storage system. The use of schottky diode and voltage multiplier circuits to express on the ambient RF sources surrounding the system is one way that has seen a sudden rise in use for energy harvesting. Practically speaking, the RF and ambient sources can be provided by active and passive devices such as inductors, capacitors, diode, etc. In this paper, we present a schottky based voltage multiplier circuits for mobile charging device which integrate the power generation module with radio wave generation module. We also discuss that multi-stage schematic, e.g., three-stage schottky diode based voltage multiplier circuits, for a continuing effort on energy harvesting system.

In the construction of a no-linear key-stream generator, self-shrinking is an established way of getting the binary pseudo-random periodic sequences in cryptography design. In this paper, using the theoretical analysis, we mainly study the self-shrinking sequence based on the l-sequence, and the theoretical results reflect its good cryptography properties accurately, such that it has the last period T = pe(p-1)/2 when T is an odd number, and the expected value of its autocorrelation belongs to {0,1/T and the variance is O(T/ln4T). Furthermore, we find that the 2-adic complexity of the self-shrinking sequence based on the l-sequence is large enough to resist the Rational Approximation attack.

In the theory of diffraction gratings, the conventional integral method is considered as a powerful tool of numerical analysis. But it fails to work at a critical angle of incidence, because a periodic Green's function (integral kernel) diverges. This problem was resolved by the image integral equation in a previous paper. Newly introducing the reflection extinction theorem, this paper derives the image extinction theorem and the image integral equation. Then, it is concluded that the image integral equation is made up of two physical processes: the image surface radiates a reflected plane wave, whereas the periodic surface radiates the diffracted wave.
This paper deals with a characteristic of the so-called effective boundary condition for a plane wave scattering from periodic surfaces with perfect conductivity. The perturbation solution with all orders is explicitly given under the effective boundary condition. It is newly found that such a perturbation solution satisfies the optical theorem under the exact boundary condition. A comparison between such a perturbation solution and a reference solution for the exact boundary condition by other methods is performed. Then, the validity of such a perturbation solution is concretely discussed.

This paper presents a novel isolator that employs a varactor that tunes the operating frequency for use in future multi-band mobile handsets. The proposed isolator employs only one varactor for compactness and has a three-fold symmetric structure to reduce the parasitic reactance at each port. Analytical and experimental results clarify the tuning range of the proposed isolator. This paper presents the fundamental characteristics of the proposed isolator such as the insertion loss, isolation, and adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) using a W-CDMA signal. The impact of the proposed isolator on the system performance is described based on experimental evaluation of the ACLR with a multi-band transmission system consisting of a power amplifier and the proposed isolator.

A semi-analytical method for a planar periodic array formed by a finite number of magnetized ferrite circular cylinders is presented using a model of layered cylindrical structures. The method uses the T-matrix approach and the extraction of the reflection and transmission matrices based on the cylindrical harmonic mode expansion. Based on the proposed method, plane wave scattering by the finite number of magnetized ferrite circular cylinders is numerically studied from the viewpoint of realization the electronic switching and electronic scanning effects by varying the applied magnetic field.

In this letter a circular polarization microstrip antenna with switchable polarization is proposed. The switchable polarization sense characteristic is realized via a shunt connected varactor tuning diode. The appropriate capacitance of the diode at the reverse bias voltage can alter two circular polarizations, as the tuning diode, which is located near the rectangular slot in the circular patch, is utilized in a perturbation element. The switchable polarization is analyzed using the equivalent circuit model representing the resonances of each orthogonal mode. Simulation, calculated, and measured results agree well.

A novel type of millimeter/submillimeter wave sampler based on resonant tunneling diodes (RTDs) was proposed, and its operation was confirmed by circuit simulation. It consists of an RTD pulse generator and an RTD detector. Owing to the fuse-like nonlinear I-V curve, highly sensitive sampling can be obtained. We also found that the effects of non-ideality in the I-V curve of the RTD can be corrected by sweeping the DC bias for the RTD detector.
In this letter, a timing-offset estimation scheme is proposed for cooperative networks. The estimation scheme consists of coarse timing-offset estimation and fine timing-offset estimation. The presented scheme relies on periodic training data and linear mean square estimation for efficient estimation. The simulation results indicate that the performance of the proposed approach is better than or comparable to that of the conventional methods with lower computational complexity in the fine estimation.

In contemporary communications, Golay, periodic and Z- complementary sequence sets play a very important role, since such sequence sets possess impulse-like or zero correlation zone (ZCZ) autocorrelation. On the other hand, the advantages of the signals over the quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellation are more and more prominent. Hence, the design of such sequence sets over the QAM constellation has turned into one of the all-important issues in communications. Therefore, the construction methods of such sequence sets over the 16-QAM constellation are investigated, in this letter, and our goals are arrived at by the known quaternary Golay, periodic and Z- complementary sequence sets. Finally, many examples illuminate the validity of the proposed methods.

Reverse-recovery modeling for p-i-n diodes in the high current-density conditions are discussed. With the dynamic carrier-distribution-based modeling approach, the reverse recovery behaviors are explained in the high current-density conditions, where the nonquasi-static (NQS) behavior of carriers in the drift region is considered. In addition, a specific feature under the high current-density condition is discussed. The proposed model is implemented into a commercial circuit simulator in the Verilog-A language and its reverse recovery modeling ability is verified with a two-dimensional (2D) device simulator, in comparison to the conventional lumped-charge modeling technique.

In this paper, two efficient redeployment strategies which are designed to balance the detection coverage rate and maintenance period are proposed. To develop these strategies, we first analyze the sensor detection coverage and energy consumption model. We then propose a network maintenance indicator that considers the coverage rate and residual energy in each node. We adopt the network maintenance indicator as the cost function. That is, the network maintenance is formulated as a cost optimization problem. Finally we propose COST_MAX_MIN and COST_MAX_AVG strategies to select the redeployed location of candidate nodes. Simulation results show that the COST_MAX_AVG prolong the repair period in comparison with the COST_MAX_MIN strategy.

The linear complexity and its stability of periodic sequences are of fundamental importance as measure indexes on the security of stream ciphers and the k-error linear complexity reveals the stability of the linear complexity properly. Recently, Zhou designed an algorithm for computing the k-error linear complexity of 2pn periodic sequences over GF(q). In this paper, we develop a genetic algorithm to confirm that one can't get the real k-error linear complexity for some sequenes by the Zhou's algorithm. Analysis indicates that the Zhou's algorithm is unreasonable in some steps. The corrected algorithm is presented. Such algorithm will increase the amount of computation, but is necessary to get the real k-error linear complexity. Here p and q are odd prime, and q is a primitive root (mod p2).

The periodogram scheme is a versatile method for large frequency offset estimation which requires preambles, in general, and only a few reference signals. However, the drawback of the conventional scheme is its inaccuracy in detecting the integer part of frequency offset which dominates the accuracy of frequency offset estimation. In order to increase the accuracy of the estimation, we directly interpolate a coefficient of the periodogram. The conventional periodogram and proposed schemes are compared in terms of the mean square error performance in the long term evolution system. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the conventional one and the simulation results indicate the better performance of the proposed one.

Large-signal-based nonlinear models are developed to analyze a variety of dynamic performances in a resonant tunneling diode (RTD) with peripheral circuits such as an integrated broad band bow-tie antenna, a bias circuit and a bias stabilizer circuit. Dynamic modes of the RTD are classified by the time-domain analysis with the model. On the basis of our model, we suggest a possibility to discuss a terahertz order oscillation mode control, and the ASK modulation in several tens Gbit/sec in the RTD with the broad band antenna. Validity of the model and analysis is shown by explaining measured results of modulated oscillation signals in fabricated triple-barrier RTDs.

We performed the (NH4)2S surface treatments before Al2O3 deposition to improve the Al2O3/III-Nitride interface quality in Al2O3/AlGaN/GaN metal-oxide-semiconductor heterostructure field-effect transistors (MOSHFETs). Interface state density at the Al2O3/GaN interface was decreased by the (NH4)2S treatment. The hysteresis width in ID-VGS and gm-VGS characteristics of the Al2O3/AlGaN MOSHFETs with the (NH4)2S treatment was smaller than that without the (NH4)2S treatment. In addition, transconductance (gm) decrease at a large gate voltage was relaxed by the (NH4)2S treatment. We also performed ultraviolet (UV) illumination during the (NH4)2S treatment for further improvement of the Al2O3/III-Nitride interface quality. Interface state density of the Al2O3/GaN MOS diodes with the UV illumination was smaller than that without the UV illumination.

The design, fabrication and characterization of GaN based varactor diodes are presented. MOCVD was used for layer growth and the DC characteristic of 4 µm diameter diodes showed a turn-on voltage of 0.5 V, a breakdown voltage of 21 V and a modulation ratio of 1.63. High frequency characterization allowed obtaining the diode equivalent circuit and observed the bias dependence of the series resistance. The diode cutoff frequency was 900 GHz. A large-signal model was developed for the diode and the device power performance was evaluated. A power of 7.2 dBm with an efficiency of 16.6% was predicted for 47 GHz to 94 GHz doubling.

In this letter, we provide an asymptotic error rate performance evaluation of space-time block codes from coordinate interleaved orthogonal designs (STBCs-CIODs), especially in shadowed Rayleigh fading channels. By evaluating a simplified probability density function (PDF) of Rayleigh and Rayleigh-lognormal channels affecting the STBC-CIOD system, we derive an accurate closed-form approximation for the tight upper and lower bounds on the symbol error rate (SER). We show that shadowing asymptotically affects coding gain only, and conclude that an increase in diversity order under shadowing causes slower convergence to asymptotic bound due to the relatively larger loss of coding gain. By comparing the derived formulas and Monte-Carlo simulations, we validate the accuracy of the theoretical results.
In this letter, we first present a new construction method for uncorrelated binary periodic Complementary sequence sets (CSS). Next, the uncorrelated periodic CSSs are used as pilot sequences for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel estimation. Later on, we propose a low-complexity periodic correlator. Finally, simulation results verify the optimality of pilot sequences for MIMO channel estimation.
