  • Formal Verification for Node-Based Visual Scripts Using Symbolic Model Checking

    Visual script languages with a node-based interface have commonly been used in the video game industry. We examined the bug database obtained in the development of FINAL FANTASY XV (FFXV), and noticed that several types of bugs were caused by simple mis-descriptions of visual scripts and could therefore be mechanically detected. We propose a method for the automatic verification of visual scripts in order to improve productivity of video game development. Our method can automatically detect those bugs by using symbolic model checking. We show a translation algorithm which can automatically convert a visual script to an input model for NuSMV that is an implementation of symbolic model checking. For a preliminary evaluation, we applied our method to visual scripts used in the production for FFXV. The evaluation results demonstrate that our method can detect bugs of scripts and works well in a reasonable time.

    Utilization data (a kind of incomplete data) is defined as the fraction of a fixed period in which the system is busy. In computer systems, utilization data is very common and easily observable, such as CPU utilization. Unlike inter-arrival times and waiting times, it is more significant to consider the parameter estimation of transaction-based systems with utilization data. In our previous work [7], a novel parameter estimation method using utilization data for an Mt/M/1/K queueing system was presented to estimate the parameters of a non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP). Since NHPP is classified as a simple counting process, it may not fit actual arrival streams very well. As a generalization of NHPP, Markovian arrival process (MAP) takes account of the dependency between consecutive arrivals and is often used to model complex, bursty, and correlated traffic streams. In this paper, we concentrate on the parameter estimation of an MAP/M/1/K queueing system using utilization data. In particular, the parameters are estimated by using maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method. Numerical experiments on real utilization data validate the proposed approach and evaluate the effective traffic intensity of the arrival stream of MAP/M/1/K queueing system. Besides, three kinds of utilization datasets are created from a simulation to assess the effects of observed time intervals on both estimation accuracy and computational cost. The numerical results show that MAP-based approach outperforms the exiting method in terms of both the estimation accuracy and computational cost.

  • Observation of Arc Discharges Occurring between Commutator and Brush Simulating a DC Motor by Means of a High-Speed Camera

    Observed results of arc discharges generated between the brush and commutator are reported. The motion of the arc discharges was observed by a high-speed camera. The brush and commutator were installed to an experimental device that simulated the rotational motion of a real DC motor. The aim of this paper is to investigate the occurring position, dimensions, and moving characteristics of the arc discharges by means of high-speed imaging. Time evolutions of the arc voltage and current were measured, simultaneously. The arc discharges were generated when an inductive circuit was interrupted. Circuit current before interruption was 4A. The metal graphite or graphite brush and a copper commutator were used. Following results were obtained. The arc discharge was dragged on the brush surface and the arc discharge was sticking to the side surface of the commutator. The positions of the arc spots were on the end of the commutator and the center of the brush in rotational direction. The dimensions of the arc discharge were about 0.2 mm in length and about 0.3 mm in width. The averaged arc voltage during arc duration became higher and the light emission from the arc discharge became brighter, as the copper content of the cathode decreased.

    Automobile companies have been trying to replace side mirrors of cars with small cameras for reducing air resistance. It enables us to apply some image processing to improve the quality of the image. Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) is one of such techniques to improve the quality of the image for the side mirror camera, which requires a large computation performance. Here, an implementation method of CLAHE on a low-end FPGA board by high-level synthesis is proposed. CLAHE has two main processing parts: cumulative distribution function (CDF) generation, and bilinear interpolation. During the CDF generation, the effect of increasing loop initiation interval can be greatly reduced by placing multiple Processing Elements (PEs). and during the interpolation, latency and BRAM usage were reduced by revising how to hold CDF and calculation method. Finally, by connecting each module with streaming interfaces, using data flow pragmas, overlapping processing, and hiding data transfer, our HLS implementation achieved a comparable result to that of HDL. We parameterized the components of the algorithm so that the number of tiles and the size of the image can be easily changed.     Dependences of arc duration D and contact gap at arc extinction d on contact opening speed v are studied for break arcs generated in a 48VDC resistive circuit at constant contact opening speeds. The opening speed v is varied over a wide range from 0.05 to 0.5m/s. Circuit current while electrical contacts are closed I0 is varied to 10A, 20A, 50A, 100A, 200A, and 300A. The following results were obtained. For each current I0, the arc duration D decreased with increasing contact opening speed v. However, the D at I0=300A was shorter than that at I0=200A. On the other hand, the contact gap at arc extinction d tended to increase with increasing the I0. However, the d at I0=300A was shorter than that at I0=200A. The d was almost constant with increasing the v for each current I0 when the I0 was lower than 200A. However, the d became shorter when the v was slower at I0=200A and 300A. At the v=0.05m/s, for example, the d at I0=300A was shorter than that at I0=100A. To explain the cause of the results of the d, in addition, arc length just before extinction L were analyzed. The L tended to increase with increasing current I0. The L was almost constant with increasing the v when the I0 was lower than 200A. However, when I0=200A and 300A, the L tended to become longer when the v was slower. The characteristics of the d will be discussed using the analyzed results of the L and motion of break arcs. At higher currents at I0=200A and 300A, the shorter d at the slowest v was caused by wide motion of the arc spots on contact surfaces and larger deformation of break arcs.

  • Joint Wireless and Computational Resource Allocation Based on Hierarchical Game for Mobile Edge Computing

    In this paper, we propose a hierarchical Stackelberg game based resource allocation algorithm (HGRAA) to jointly allocate the wireless and computational resources of a mobile edge computing (MEC) system. The proposed HGRAA is composed of two levels: the lower-level evolutionary game (LEG) minimizes the cost of mobile terminals (MTs), and the upper-level exact potential game (UEPG) maximizes the utility of MEC servers. At the lower-level, the MTs are divided into delay-sensitive MTs (DSMTs) and non-delay-sensitive MTs (NDSMTs) according to their different quality of service (QoS) requirements. The competition among DSMTs and NDSMTs in different service areas to share the limited available wireless and computational resources is formulated as a dynamic evolutionary game. The dynamic replicator is applied to obtain the evolutionary equilibrium so as to minimize the costs imposed on MTs. At the upper level, the exact potential game is formulated to solve the resource sharing problem among MEC servers and the resource sharing problem is transferred to nonlinear complementarity. The existence of Nash equilibrium (NE) is proved and is obtained through the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) condition. Simulations illustrate that substantial performance improvements such as average utility and the resource utilization of MEC servers can be achieved by applying the proposed HGRAA. Moreover, the cost of MTs is significantly lower than other existing algorithms with the increasing size of input data, and the QoS requirements of different kinds of MTs are well guaranteed in terms of average delay and transmission data rate.

    Siamese visual tracking, viewed as a problem of max-similarity matching to the target template, has absorbed increasing attention in computer vision. However, it is a challenge for current Siamese trackers that the demands of balance between accuracy in real-time tracking and robustness in long-time tracking are hard to meet. This work proposes a new Siamese based tracker with a dual-pipeline correlated fusion network (named as ADF-SiamRPN), which consists of one initial template for robust correlation, and the other transient template with the ability of adaptive feature optimal selection for accurate correlation. By the promotion from the learnable correlation-response fusion network afterwards, we are in pursuit of the synthetical improvement of tracking performance. To compare the performance of ADF-SiamRPN with state-of-the-art trackers, we conduct lots of experiments on benchmarks like OTB100, UAV123, VOT2016, VOT2018, GOT-10k, LaSOT and TrackingNet. The experimental results of tracking demonstrate that ADF-SiamRPN outperforms all the compared trackers and achieves the best balance between accuracy and robustness.

    In this paper, we present an efficient and robust method for estimating Homography matrix for soccer field registration between a captured camera image and a soccer field model. The presented method first detects reliable field lines from the camera image through clustering. Constructing a novel directional feature of the intersection points of the lines in both the camera image and the model, the presented method then finds matching pairs of these points between the image and the model. Finally, Homography matrix estimations and validations are performed using the obtained matching pairs, which can reduce the required number of Homography matrix calculations. Our presented method uses possible intersection points outside image for the point matching. This effectively improves robustness and accuracy of Homography estimation as demonstrated in experimental results.

  • Co-Head Pedestrian Detection in Crowded Scenes

    Pedestrian detection is an essential but challenging task in computer vision, especially in crowded scenes due to heavy intra-class occlusion. In human visual system, head information can be used to locate pedestrian in a crowd because it is more stable and less likely to be occluded. Inspired by this clue, we propose a dual-task detector which detects head and human body simultaneously. Concretely, we estimate human body candidates from head regions with statistical head-body ratio. A head-body alignment map is proposed to perform relational learning between human bodies and heads based on their inherent correlation. We leverage the head information as a strict detection criterion to suppress common false positives of pedestrian detection via a novel pull-push loss. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed method on the CrowdHuman and CityPersons benchmarks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves impressive performance in detecting heavy-occluded pedestrians with little additional computation cost.

    Iterative block decision feedback equalization with hard-decision feedback (HD-IBDFE) was proposed for single-carrier transmission with frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE). The detection performance hinges upon not only error propagation, but also the accuracy of estimating the parameters used to re-compute the equalizer coefficients at each iteration. In this paper, we use the erasure zone (EZ) to de-emphasize the feedback values when the hard decisions are not reliable. EZ use also enables a more accurate, and yet computationally more efficient, parameter estimation method than HD-IBDFE. We show that the resulting equalizer coefficients share the same mathematical form as that of the HD-IBDFE, thereby preserving the merit of not requiring matrix inverse operations in calculating the equalizer coefficients. Simulations show that, by using the EZ and the proposed parameter estimation method, a significant performance improvement over the conventional HD-IBDFE can be achieved, but with lower complexity.

    DAIHINMIN, which means Grand Pauper, is a popular playing-card game in Japan. TANHINMIN is a simplified variant of DAIHINMIN, which was proposed by Nishino in 2007 in order to investigate the mathematical properties of DAIHINMIN. In this paper, we consider a 2-player generalized TANHINMIN, where the deck size is arbitrary n. We present a linear-time algorithm that determines which player has a winning strategy after all cards are distributed to the players.

    We developed a Nb 4-layer process for fabricating superconducting integrated circuits that involves using caldera planarization to increase the flexibility and reliability of the fabrication process. We call this process the planarized high-speed standard process (PHSTP). Planarization enables us to flexibly adjust most of the Nb and SiO2 film thicknesses; we can select reduced film thicknesses to obtain larger mutual coupling depending on the application. It also reduces the risk of intra-layer shorts due to etching residues at the step-edge regions. We describe the detailed process flows of the planarization for the Josephson junction layer and the evaluation of devices fabricated with PHSTP. The results indicated no short defects or degradation in junction characteristics and good agreement between designed and measured inductances and resistances. We also developed single-flux-quantum (SFQ) and adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron (AQFP) logic cell libraries and tested circuits fabricated with PHSTP. We found that the designed circuits operated correctly. The SFQ shift-registers fabricated using PHSTP showed a high yield. Numerical simulation results indicate that the AQFP gates with increased mutual coupling by the planarized layer structure increase the maximum interconnect length between gates.

  • Efficient DLT-Based Method for Solving PnP, PnPf, and PnPfr Problems

    This paper presents an efficient method for solving PnP, PnPf, and PnPfr problems, which are the problems of determining camera parameters from 2D-3D point correspondences. The proposed method is derived based on a simple usage of linear algebra, similarly to the classical DLT methods. Therefore, the new method is easier to understand, easier to implement, and several times faster than the state-of-the-art methods using Gröbner basis. Contrary to the existing Gröbner basis methods, the proposed method consists of three algorithms depending on the number of the points and the 3D point configuration. Experimental results show that the proposed method is as accurate as the state-of-the-art methods even in near-planar scenes while achieving up to three times faster.

  • Binary and Rotational Coded-Aperture Imaging for Dynamic Light Fields

    Coded-aperture imaging has been utilized for compressive light field acquisition; several images are captured using different aperture patterns, and from those images, an entire light field is computationally reconstructed. This method has been extended to dynamic light fields (moving scenes). However, this method assumed that the patterns were gray-valued and of arbitrary shapes. Implementation of such patterns required a special device such as a liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) display, which made the imaging system costly and prone to noise. To address this problem, we propose the use of a binary aperture pattern rotating along time, which can be implemented with a rotating plate with a hole. We demonstrate that although using such a pattern limits the design space, our method can still achieve a high reconstruction quality comparable to the original method.

  • Consumption Pricing Mechanism of Scientific and Technological Resources Based on Multi-Agent Game Theory: An Interactive Analytical Model and Experimental Validation

    In the context of Web 2.0, the interaction between users and resources is more and more frequent in the process of resource sharing and consumption. However, the current research on resource pricing mainly focuses on the attributes of the resource itself, and does not weigh the interests of the resource sharing participants. In order to deal with these problems, the pricing mechanism of resource-user interaction evaluation based on multi-agent game theory is established in this paper. Moreover, the user similarity, the evaluation bias based on link analysis and punishment of academic group cheating are also included in the model. Based on the data of 181 scholars and 509 articles from the Wanfang database, this paper conducts 5483 pricing experiments for 13 months, and the results show that this model is more effective than other pricing models - the pricing accuracy of resource resources is 94.2%, and the accuracy of user value evaluation is 96.4%. Besides, this model can intuitively show the relationship within users and within resources. The case study also exhibits that the user's knowledge level is not positively correlated with his or her authority. Discovering and punishing academic group cheating is conducive to objectively evaluating researchers and resources. The pricing mechanism of scientific and technological resources and the users proposed in this paper is the premise of fair trade of scientific and technological resources.

    In this paper, we propose a robust parameters estimation algorithm for channel coded systems based on the low-density parity-check (LDPC) code over fading channels with impulse noise. The estimated parameters are then used to generate bit log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) for a soft-inputLDPC decoder. The expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is used to estimate the parameters, including the channel gain and the parameters of the Bernoulli-Gaussian (B-G) impulse noise model. The parameters can be estimated accurately and the average number of iterations of the proposed algorithm is acceptable. Simulation results show that over a wide range of impulse noise power, the proposed algorithm approaches the optimal performance under different Rician channel factors and even under Middleton class-A (M-CA) impulse noise models.

    This paper describes a novel 4K 120fps (frames per second) real-time HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder for high-frame-rate video encoding and transmission. Motion portrayal problems such as motion blur and jerkiness may occur in video scenes containing fast-moving objects or quick camera panning. A high-frame-rate solves such problems and provides a more immersive viewing experience that can express even the fast-moving scenes without discomfort. It can also be used in remote operation for scenes with high motion, such as VAR (Video Assistant Referee) systems in sports. Real-time encoding of high-frame-rate videos with low latency and temporal scalability is required for providing such high-frame-rate video services. The proposed encoder achieves full 4K/120fps real-time encoding, which is twice the current 4K service frame rate of 60fps, by multichip configuration with two encoder LSI. Exchange of reference picture data near a spatially divided slice boundary provides cross-chip motion estimation, and maintains the coding efficiency. The encoder supports temporal-scalable coding mode, in which it output stream with temporal scalability transmitted over one or two transmission paths. The encoder also supports the other mode, low-delay coding mode, in which it achieves 21.8msec low-latency processing through motion vector restriction. Evaluation of the proposed encoder's multichip configuration shows that the BD-bitrate (the average rate of bitrate increase), compared to simple slice division without inter-chip transfer, is -2.86% at minimum and -2.41% on average in temporal-scalable coding mode. The proposed encoder system will open the door to the next generation of high-frame-rate UHDTV (ultra-high-definition television) services.

  • Time-Series Measurement of Parked Domain Names and Their Malicious Uses

    On the Internet, there are lots of unused domain names that are not used for any actual services. Domain parking is a monetization mechanism for displaying online advertisements in such unused domain names. Some domain names used in cyber attacks are known to leverage domain parking services after the attack. However, the temporal relationships between domain parking services and malicious domain names have not been studied well. In this study, we investigated how malicious domain names using domain parking services change over time. We conducted a large-scale measurement study of more than 66.8 million domain names that have used domain parking services in the past 19 months. We reveal the existence of 3,964 domain names that have been malicious after using domain parking. We further identify what types of malicious activities (e.g., phishing and malware) such malicious domain names tend to be used for. We also reveal the existence of 3.02 million domain names that utilized multiple parking services simultaneously or while switching between them. Our study can contribute to the efficient analysis of malicious domain names using domain parking services.

    During the detection of maritime targets, the jitter of the shipborne camera usually causes the video instability and the false or missed detection of targets. Aimed at tackling this problem, a novel algorithm for maritime target detection based on the electronic image stabilization technology is proposed in this study. The algorithm mainly includes three models, namely the points line model (PLM), the points classification model (PCM), and the image classification model (ICM). The feature points (FPs) are firstly classified by the PLM, and stable videos as well as target contours are obtained by the PCM. Then the smallest bounding rectangles of the target contours generated as the candidate bounding boxes (bboxes) are sent to the ICM for classification. In the experiments, the ICM, which is constructed based on the convolutional neural network (CNN), is trained and its effectiveness is verified. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperformed the benchmark models in all the common metrics including the mean square error (MSE), peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity index (SSIM), and mean average precision (mAP) by at least -47.87%, 8.66%, 6.94%, and 5.75%, respectively. The proposed algorithm is superior to the state-of-the-art techniques in both the image stabilization and target ship detection, which provides reliable technical support for the visual development of unmanned ships.

    In this study, we present a novel method for removing smoke from videos based on a single image sequence. Smoke is a significant artifact in images or videos because it can reduce the visibility in disaster scenes. Our proposed method for removing smoke involves two main processes: (1) the development of a smoke imaging model and (2) smoke removal using spatio-temporal pixel compensation. First, we model the optical phenomena in natural scenes including smoke, which is called a smoke imaging model. Our smoke imaging model is developed by extending conventional haze imaging models. We then remove the smoke from a video in a frame-by-frame manner based on the smoke imaging model. Next, we refine the appearance of the smoke-free video by spatio-temporal pixel compensation, where we align the smoke-free frames using the corresponding pixels. To obtain the corresponding pixels, we use SIFT and color features with distance constraints. Finally, in order to obtain a clear video, we refine the pixel values based on the spatio-temporal weightings of the corresponding pixels in the smoke-free frames. We used simulated and actual smoke videos in our validation experiments. The experimental results demonstrated that our method can obtain effective smoke removal results from dynamic scenes. We also quantitatively assessed our method based on a temporal coherence measure.
