Reliability is an important figure of merit of the system and it must be satisfied in safety-critical applications. This paper considers parallel applications on heterogeneous embedded systems and proposes a two-phase algorithm framework to minimize energy consumption for satisfying applications’ reliability requirement. The first phase is for initial assignment and the second phase is for either satisfying the reliability requirement or improving energy efficiency. Specifically, when the application’s reliability requirement cannot be achieved via the initial assignment, an algorithm for enhancing the reliability of tasks is designed to satisfy the application’s reliability requirement. Considering that the reliability of initial assignment may exceed the application’s reliability requirement, an algorithm for reducing the execution frequency of tasks is designed to improve energy efficiency. The proposed algorithms are compared with existing algorithms by using real parallel applications. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms consume less energy while satisfying the application’s reliability requirements.

A double step attenuation measurement technique using a non-isolating gauge block attenuator (GBA) has been proposed for accurate measurements of radio frequency and microwave high attenuation. For fixed attenuator as a device under test (DUT), a medium value (≤ 60 dB) attenuator is used as the GBA which connected directly between the test ports, then high attenuation of the DUT is measured in two setups as follows. 1) Thru and GBA with normal power level and 2) GBA and DUT with higher power level. This approach removes the need to isolate the GBA, therefore, accurate measurements of high attenuation can be obtained simply over a broad frequency range. For variable or step attenuator as a DUT, one of the attenuation sections of the DUT is applied as the GBA. Detailed analyses and those verification measurements are carried out both for fixed attenuator, as well as for variable attenuator and show good agreement.

This paper proposes a novel configuration for a wideband single-carrier transmitter using a sub-terahertz frequency. For wideband single-carrier transmission over a bandwidth of several gigahertz, the frequency response non-flatness derived from transmitter components in an operating band seriously deteriorates the transmission quality due to inter-symbol interference. A promising approach to address this problem is equalizing the frequency response non-flatness at the transmitter. The proposed novel configuration has a feedback route for calculating the inverse frequency response and multiplying it with a transmission signal spectrum in the frequency domain. Moreover, we verify that employing the proposed transmitter configuration simplifies the receiver configuration by lowering the calculation complexity to minimize the inter-symbol interference to meet the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio requirements. To confirm the feasibility of the proposed configuration, the transmission quality obtained using the proposed configuration is measured and evaluated. Experimental results confirm that the proposed configuration improves the error vector magnitude value to over 5 dB for a 10 Gbaud transmission and the transmission data rate of 25 Gbps.

Japan encounters an urgent issue of “Carbon Neutrality” as a member of the international world and is required to make the action plans to accomplish this issue, i.e., the zero emission of CO2 by 2050. Our world must change the industries to adapt to the electrification based on the renewable powers. Microwave chemistry is a candidate of electrification of industries for the carbon neutrality on the conditions of usage of renewable energy power generation. This invited paper shows an example of “Microwave Pidgeon process” for smelting magnesium in which heating with burning fossil coals can be replaced with microwave energy for discussing how microwave technology should be developed for that purpose from both the academic and industrial sides.

High altitude platform (HAP), known as line-of-sight dominated communications, effectively enhance the spectral efficiency of wireless networks. However, the line-of-sight links, particularly in urban areas, may be severely deteriorated due to the complex communication environment. The reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is employed to establish the cascaded-link and improve the quality of communication service by smartly reflecting the signals received from HAP to users without direct-link. Motivated by this, the joint precoding scheme for a novel RIS-aided beamspace HAP with non-orthogonal multiple access (HAP-NOMA) system is investigated to maximize the minimum user signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) by considering user fairness. Specifically, the SLNR is utilized as metric to design the joint precoding algorithm for a lower complexity, because the isolation between the precoding obtainment and power allocation can make the two parts be attained iteratively. To deal with the formulated non-convex problem, we first derive the statistical upper bound on SLNR based on the random matrix theory in large scale antenna array. Then, the closed-form expressions of power matrix and passive precoding matrix are given by introducing auxiliary variables based on the derived upper bound on SLNR. The proposed joint precoding only depends on the statistical channel state information (SCSI) instead of instantaneous channel state information (ICSI). NOMA serves multi-users simultaneously in the same group to compensate for the loss of spectral efficiency resulted from the beamspace HAP. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the derived statistical upper bound on SLNR and the performance enhancement of the proposed joint precoding algorithm.

This paper delves into the utilisation of the subgradient method with geometrically decaying stepsize for Bilinear Form Identification. We introduce the iterative Wiener Filter, an l2 regression method, and highlight its limitations when confronted with noise, particularly heavy-tailed noise. To address these challenges, the paper suggests employing the l1 regression method with a subgradient method utilizing a geometrically decaying step size. The effectiveness of this approach is compared to existing methods, including the ALS algorithem. The study demonstrates that the l1 algorithm, especially when paired with the proposed subgradient method, excels in stability and accuracy under conditions of heavy-tailed noise. Additionally, the paper introduces the standard rounding procedure and the S-outlier bound as relaxations of traditional assumptions. Numerical experiments provide support and validation for the presented results.

Constructing new families of APN functions is an important and challenging topic. Up to now, only six infinite families of APN monomials have been found on finite fields of even characteristic. To study APN functions, partially APN functions have attracted plenty of researchers’ particular interests recently. In this paper, we propose several new infinite classes of 0-APN power functions over 𝔽2n by using the multivariate method and resultant elimination. Furthermore, we use Magma soft to show that these 0-APN power functions are CCZ-inequivalent to the known 0-APN power functions.

This letter introduces an innovation for the heterogeneous storage architecture of AI chips, specifically focusing on the integration of six transistors(6T) and eight transistors(8T) hybrid SRAM. Traditional approaches to reducing SRAM power consumption typically involve lowering the operating voltage, a method that often substantially diminishes the recognition rate of neural networks. However, the innovative design detailed in this letter amalgamates the strengths of both SRAM types. It operates at a voltage lower than conventional SRAM, thereby significantly reducing the power consumption in neural networks without compromising performance.

Detecting key frames in videos has garnered substantial attention in recent years, it is a point-level task and has deep research value and application prospect in daily life. For instances, video surveillance system, video cover generation and highlight moment flashback all demands the technique of key frame detection. However, the task is beset by challenges such as the sparsity of key frame instances, imbalances between target frames and background frames, and the absence of post-processing method. In response to these problems, we introduce a novel and effective Temporal Interval Guided (TIG) framework to precisely localize specific frames. The framework is incorporated with a proposed Point-Level-Soft non-maximum suppression (PLS-NMS) post-processing algorithm which is suitable for point-level task, facilitated by the well-designed confidence score decay function. Furthermore, we propose a TIG-loss, exhibiting sensitivity to temporal interval from target frame, to optimize the two-stage framework. The proposed method can be broadly applied to key frame detection in video understanding, including action start detection and static video summarization. Extensive experimentation validates the efficacy of our approach on action start detection benchmark datasets: THUMOS’14 and Activitynet v1.3, and we have reached state-of-the-art performance. Competitive results are also demonstrated on SumMe and TVSum datasets for deep learning based static video summarization.

In the realm of Single Image Super-Resolution (SISR), the meticulously crafted Nonlocal Sparse Attention-based block demonstrates its efficacy in noise reduction and computational cost reduction for nonlocal (global) features. However, it neglect the traditional Convolutional-based block, which proficient in handling local features. Thus, merging both the Nonlocal Sparse Attention-based block and the Convolutional-based block to concurrently manage local and nonlocal features poses a significant challenge. To tackle the aforementioned issues, this paper introduces the Channel Contrastive Attention-based Local-Nonlocal Mutual block (CCLN) for Super-Resolution (SR). (1) We introduce the CCLN block, encompassing the Local Sparse Convolutional-based block for local features and the Nonlocal Sparse Attention-based network block for nonlocal features. (2) We introduce Channel Contrastive Attention (CCA) blocks, incorporating Sparse Aggregation into Convolutional-based blocks. Additionally, we introduce a robust framework to fuse these two blocks, ensuring that each branch operates according to its respective strengths. (3) The CCLN block can seamlessly integrate into established network backbones like the Enhanced Deep Super-Resolution network (EDSR), achieving in the Channel Attention based Local-Nonlocal Mutual Network (CCLNN). Experimental results show that our CCLNN effectively leverages both local and nonlocal features, outperforming other state-of-the-art algorithms.

Radar emitter identification (REI) is a crucial function of electronic radar warfare support systems. The challenge emphasizes identifying and locating unique transmitters, avoiding potential threats, and preparing countermeasures. Due to the remarkable effectiveness of deep learning (DL) in uncovering latent features within data and performing classifications, deep neural networks (DNNs) have seen widespread application in radar emitter identification (REI). In many real-world scenarios, obtaining a large number of annotated radar transmitter samples for training identification models is essential yet challenging. Given the issues of insufficient labeled datasets and abundant unlabeled training datasets, we propose a novel REI method based on a semi-supervised learning (SSL) framework with virtual adversarial training (VAT). Specifically, two objective functions are designed to extract the semantic features of radar signals: computing cross-entropy loss for labeled samples and virtual adversarial training loss for all samples. Additionally, a pseudo-labeling approach is employed for unlabeled samples. The proposed VAT-based SS-REI method is evaluated on a radar dataset. Simulation results indicate that the proposed VAT-based SS-REI method outperforms the latest SS-REI method in recognition performance.

We achieved 10-Gbit/s data transmission using a cutting-edge 120-GHz-band high-speed contactless communication technology, which allows seamless connection to a local area network (LAN) by simply placing devices on a desk. We propose a glass substrate-integrated rectangular waveguide that can control the permeability of the top surface to 120-GHz signals by contacting a dielectric substrate with the substrate. The top surface of the rectangular waveguide was replaced with a glass substrate on which split-ring resonators (SRRs) were integrated. The transmission loss of the waveguide with a glass substrate was 2.5 dB at 125 GHz. When a dielectric sheet with a line pattern formed on the contact surface was in contact with a glass substrate, the transmission loss from the waveguide to the dielectric sheet was 19.2 dB at 125 GHz. We achieved 10-Gbit/s data transmission by contacting a dielectric sheet to the SRR-integrated glass substrate.

In this paper, we consider an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based multiuser full-duplex wireless powered communication network (FD WPCN) system with beamforming (BF) at an energy transmitter (ET). The ET performs BF to efficiently transmit energy to multiple users while suppressing interference to an information receiver (IR). Multiple users operating in full-duplex mode harvest energy from the signals sent by the ET while simultaneously transmitting information to the IR using the harvested energy. We analytically demonstrate that the FD WPCN is superior to its half-duplex (HD) WPCN counterpart in the high-SNR regime. We propose a transmitter design method that maximizes the sum rate by determining the BF at the ET, power allocation at both the ET and users, and sub-band allocation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In face super-resolution reconstruction, the interference caused by the texture and color of the hair region on the details and contours of the face region can negatively affect the reconstruction results. This paper proposes a semantic-based, dual-branch face super-resolution algorithm to address the issue of varying reconstruction complexities and mutual interference among different pixel semantics in face images. The algorithm clusters pixel semantic data to create a hierarchical representation, distinguishing between facial pixel regions and hair pixel regions. Subsequently, independent image enhancement is applied to these distinct pixel regions to mitigate their interference, resulting in a vivid, super-resolution face image.

Point cloud video contains not only color information but also spatial position information and usually has large volume of data. Typical rate distortion optimization algorithms based on Human Visual System only consider the color information, which limit the coding performance. In this paper, a Coding Tree Unit (CTU) level quantization parameter (QP) adjustment algorithm based on JND and spatial complexity is proposed to improve the subjective and objective quality of Video-Based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC). Firstly, it is found that the JND model is degraded at CTU level for attribute video due to the pixel filling strategy of V-PCC, and an improved JND model is designed using the occupancy map. Secondly, a spatial complexity detection metric is designed to measure the visual importance of each CTU. Finally, a CTU-level QP adjustment scheme based on both JND levels and visual importance is proposed for geometry and attribute video. The experimental results show that, compared with the latest V-PCC (TMC2-18.0) anchors, the BD-rate is reduced by -2.8% and -3.2% for D1 and D2 metrics, respectively, and the subjective quality is improved significantly.

In this letter, we investigate the application of the subgradient method to design efficient algorithm for linear programming (LP) decoding of binary linear codes. A major drawback of the original formulation of LP decoding is that the description complexity of the feasible region is exponential in the check node degrees of the code. In order to tackle the problem, we propose a processing technique for LP decoding with the subgradient method, whose complexity is linear in the check node degrees. Consequently, a message-passing type decoding algorithm can be obtained, whose per-iteration complexity is extremely low. Moreover, if the algorithm converges to a valid codeword, it is guaranteed to be a maximum likelihood codeword. Simulation results on several binary linear codes with short lengths suggest that the performances of LP decoding based on the subgradient method and the state-of-art LP decoding implementation approach are comparable.

Mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) are widely used in quantum information processing and play an important role in quantum cryptography, quantum state tomography and communications. It’s difficult to construct MUBs and remains unknown whether complete MUBs exist for any non prime power. Therefore, researchers have proposed the solution to construct approximately mutually unbiased bases (AMUBs) by weakening the inner product conditions. This paper constructs q AMUBs of ℂq, (q + 1) AMUBs of ℂq-1 and q AMUBs of ℂq-1 by using character sums over Galois rings and finite fields, where q is a power of a prime. The first construction of q AMUBs of ℂq is new which illustrates K AMUBs of ℂK can be achieved. The second and third constructions in this paper include the partial results about AMUBs constructed by W. Wang et al. in [9].

The method of extracting impedance parameters of surface mounted (SMD) electronic components by test is suitable for components with unknown model or material information, but requires consideration of errors caused by non-coaxial and measurement fixtures. In this paper, a fixture for impedance measurement is designed according to the characteristics of passive devices, and the fixture de-embedding method is used to eliminate errors and improve the test accuracy. The method of obtaining S parameters of fixture based on full wave simulation proposed in this paper can provide a thought for obtaining S parameters in de-embedding. Taking a certain patch capacitor as an example, the S parameters for de-embedding were obtained using methods based on full wave simulation, 2×Thru, and ADS simulation, and de-embedding tests were conducted. The results indicate that obtaining the S parameter of the testing fixture based on full wave simulation and conducting de-embedding testing compared to ADS simulation can accurately extract the impedance parameters of SMD electronic components, which provides a reference for the study of electromagnetic interference (EMI) coupling mechanism.

Existing weakly-supervised segmentation approaches based on image-level annotations may focus on the most activated region in the image and tend to identify only part of the target object. Intuitively, high-level semantics among objects of the same category in different images could help to recognize corresponding activated regions of the query. In this study, a scheme called Cycle-Consistency of Semantics Network (CyCSNet) is proposed, which can enhance the activation of the potential inactive regions of the target object by utilizing the cycle-consistent semantics from images of the same category in the training set. Moreover, a Dynamic Correlation Feature Selection (DCFS) algorithm is derived to reduce the noise from pixel-wise samples of low relevance for better training. Experiments on the PASCAL VOC 2012 dataset show that the proposed CyCSNet achieves competitive results compared with state-of-the-art weakly-supervised segmentation approaches.
