    ZCZ sets are families of sequences, whose periodic auto/cross-correlation functions have zero correlation zone at the both side of the zero-shift. They can provide approximately synchronized CDMA systems without intra-cell interference for cellular mobile communications. This paper presents ternary ZCZ sets achieving a mathematical bound, and investigates the average interference parameters for the sets in order to evaluate inter-cell interference. It is shown that they can provide AS-CDMA systems with efficiency frequency usage.

    In this paper we analyze an asymptotic stability of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems and propose a composite control with gain scheduling where the fast controller is the gain scheduled controller and the slow state plays a role of slowly varying parameters in gain scheduling. Specifically, the slow controller is designed by the slow manifold to stabilize the reduced slow system. As a result, the slow manifold of the system is the same as the designed manifold.

    In this letter, we investigate the blind channel estimation in MIMO-OFDM systems based on the second-order statistics of the channel outputs only. We exploit the cyclostationarity induced by OFDM with cyclic prefix, establish the sufficient identifiability conditions, and develop a subspace algorithm. Finally, we demonstrate the validity of the algorithm by computer simulations.

    The Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction provides us important clues in controlling 2D phase-lagged stable synchronous patterns in an excitable medium. Because of the difficulty in computing reaction-diffusion systems in large systems using conventional digital processors, we here propose a cellular-automaton (CA) circuit that emulates the BZ reaction. In the circuit, a two-dimensional array of parallel processing cells is responsible for fast emulation, and its operation rate is independent of the system size. The operations of the proposed CA circuit were demonstrated by using a simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE).

    This paper assesses the performance of the handoff algorithm based on distance and RSSI measurements in a multi-cellular environment by computer simulation. The algorithm performs a handoff if handoff initiation conditions, handoff possible conditions, and handoff selective conditions are met. The performance criteria are based on the average number of handoffs, the crossover points and the average number of outages. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm. The performance of the distance-assisted handoff algorithm is compared with that of a conventional algorithm that utilizes signal strength alone. Overall, the distance-assisted algorithm exhibits higher performance in average number of handoffs and the crossover points, yet exhibits a higher number of outages on average than the conventional algorithm.

    In loudspeaker-based 3D audio systems, there are some acoustic crosstalk cancellation methods to enlarge the 'sweet spot' around a fixed listener position. However, these methods have common defect that most of them can be applied only to the specific narrow frequency band. In this letter, we propose the more robust acoustic crosstalk cancellation method so that we can cancel the crosstalk signal in far wider frequency band and enlarge 'sweet spot. ' For this goal, we apply a sum and difference filter to the conventional three loudspeaker-based 3D audio system.

    There are several attempts to generate chaotic binary sequences by using one-dimensional maps. From the standpoint of engineering applications, it is necessary to evaluate statistical properties of sample sequences of finite length. In this paper we attempt to evaluate the statistics of chaotic binary sequences of finite length. The large deviation theory for dynamical systems is useful for investigating this problem.

    Since any suggestion to regional services are not described in Kerberos, authentication between regions can be performed via PKINIT (Public Key Cryptography for Initial Authentication) presented by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) CAT working group. In this paper, an efficient Kerberos authentication mechanism associated with X.509 and Domain Name system (DNS) is presented by employing the two distinct key management systems - asymmetric and symmetric methods. A new protocol is better than the authentication mechanism proposed by IETF CAT Working group in terms of communication complexity.

    A 23.3 mm2 32 Mb embedded DRAM (eDRAM) macro has been fabricated using 0.18 µm triple-well 4-metal embedded DRAM process technology to realize an accelerated 3-D graphics controller. The array architecture, using a dual-port sense amplifier, achieves the column access latency of two cycles at 222 MHz and a peak data rate of 14.2 4 GB/s at 4 macros. The process cost has been kept low by using VT-MOS circuit technology and taking advantage of a characteristic of dual-gate oxide process technology. A tRAC of 11.6 ns at 2.0 V is achieved using a 'pre-detect redundancy' circuit.

    Algorithms are presented for the four elementary arithmetic operations, to perform reliable floating-point arithmetic operations. These arithmetic operations can be achieved by applying residue techniques to the weighted number systems and performed with no accuracy lost in the process of the computing. The arithmetic operations presented can be used as elementary tools (on many existing architectures) to ensure the reliability of numerical computations. Simulation results especially for the solutions of ill-conditioned problems are given with emphasis on the practical usability of the tools.

Here, we have a fixed point theorem on the successively recurrent system of set-valued mapping equations: xi Fi(xi-1, fi(xi-1)), (i=1,2,,n 0). This theorem can be applied immediately to analysis of the availability of system of circular networks of channels undergone by uncertain fluctuations and to evaluation of the tolerability of behaviors of those systems. In this paper, mathematical situation and detailed proof are discussed, about this theorem.

  • Operation and Maintenance System for PON Subscriber Loops Using a Broadband Light Source

    This paper presents a new operation and maintenance system for PON (Passive Optical Network) subscriber loops and an assessment of its feasibility through experiments. This system adopts a broadband continuous wave light source as a testing signal and a fiber grating filter as a reflective component. The fiber grating filter is inserted somewhere in each subscriber loop for reflection of the testing signal. Our results show that the proposed system operates well for the purposes of quick decision of loop state and easy testing for PON subscriber loops.

    We describe a method of compensating temperature fluctuation by a linear-time-warping processing in a sound reproduction system. This technique is applied to impulse responses of room transfer functions, to achieve a high-quality sound reproduction system, particularly one that treats high-frequency components. First, the impulse responses are measured before and after temperature fluctuation, and the former are converted to the latter by the proposed process. Next, we design inverse filters for the system, and evaluate the improvement of the reproduction accuracy and spectrum distortion. By the compensation method, we can improve the reproduction accuracy at any frequency. Moreover, we propose an adaptive algorithm for the estimation of a suitable warping ratio, using the observed signal of reproduced sound obtained at only one control point. Using the proposed algorithm, we can improve the reproduction accuracy at each control point by about 14 dB, in which a difference in temperature is 1.4.

  • Memory Organization for Low-Energy Processor-Based Application-Specific Systems

    This paper presents a novel low-energy memory design technique based on variable analysis for on-chip data memory (RAM) in application-specific systems, which called VAbM technique. It targets the exploitation of both data locality and effective data width of variables to reduce energy consumed by data transfer and storage. Variables with higher access frequency and smaller effective data width are assigned into a smaller low-energy memory with fewer bit lines and word lines, placed closer the processor. Under constraints of the number of memory banks, VAbM technique use variable analysis results to perform allocating and assigning on-chip RAM into multiple banks, which have different size with different number of word lines and different number of bit lines tailored to each application requirements. Experimental results with several real embedded applications demonstrate significant energy reduction up to 64.8% over monolithic memory, and 27.7% compared to memory designed by memory banking technique.

    In this paper, we present new stability conditions for a class of large-scale hybrid dynamical systems composed of a number of interconnected hybrid subsystems. The stability conditions are given in terms of discontinuous Lyapunov functions of the stable hybrid subsystems. Furthermore, the stability conditions are represented by LMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities) which are computationally tractable.

    For future adaptive networking services, it will be effective if autonomous agents utilize widely spread information that continuously changes. A communication network should provide a framework for agents to utilize information in a large-scale network and should positively support communications among agents. This paper proposes EcAgent (Environment for Communities of Agents). EcAgent provides agents with access to communities that are loose collections of agents. It gathers global information about communications among all agents and makes the agents share it in communities. It makes possible adaptive networking services that use various types of information. We implemented the EcAgent execution environment and some experimental applications to make an adaptive networking service. We also implemented a simulation system to evaluate how accurately the library recognized the embedded relationships as communities. The results of experiments show that the proposed methods for community recognition work efficiently.

    This paper presents the performance modeling, analysis, and simulation of SIP-T (Session Initiation Protocol for Telephones) signaling system in carrier class packet telephony network for NGN (Next Generation Networks). Until recently, fone of the greatest challenges in the migration from existing PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) toward NGN is to build a carrier class packet telephony network that preserves the ubiquity, quality, and reliability of PSTN services while allowing the greatest flexibility for use of new packet telephony technology. The SIP-T signaling system defined in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) draft is a mechanism that uses SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to facilitate the interconnection of PSTN with carrier class packet telephony network. Based on IETF, the SIP-T signaling system not only promises scalability, flexibility, and interoperability with PSTN but also provides call control function of MGC (Media Gateway Controller) to set up, tear down, and manage VoIP (Voice over IP) calls in carrier class packet telephony network. In this paper, we derive the buffer size, the mean of queueing delay, and the variance of queueing delay of SIP-T signaling system that are the major performance evaluation parameters for improving QoS (Quality of Service) and system performance of MGC in carrier class packet telephony network focused on toll by-pass or tandem by-pass of PSTN. First, we assume a mathematical model of the M/G/1 queue with non-preemptive priority assignment to represent SIP-T signaling system. Second, we derive the formulas of buffer size, queueing delay, and delay variation for the non-preemptive priority queue by queueing theory respectively. Besides, some numerical examples of buffer size, queueing delay, and delay variation are presented as well. Finally, the theoretical estimates are shown to be in excellent consistence with simulation results.

    This paper presents a method of simple adaptive control (SAC) for nonlinear systems using Elman recurrent neural networks (ERNNs). The control input is given by the sum of the output of a simple adaptive controller and the output of the ERNN. The ERNN is used to compensate the nonlinearity of plant dynamics that is not taken into consideration in the usual SAC. The role of the ERNN is to construct a linearized model by minimizing the output error caused by nonlinearities in the control systems.

  • An Efficient Data Transmission Technique for VLSI Systems Using Multiple-Valued Code-Division Multiple Access

    This paper investigates multiple-valued code-division multiple access (MV-CDMA) techniques and circuits for intra/inter-chip communication to achieve efficient data transmission in VLSI systems. To address the problems caused by interconnection complexity, we transmit multiplexed signals inside LSI systems employing pseudo-random orthogonal m-sequences as information carriers. A new class of multiple-valued CDMA techniques for intra-chip communication is discussed to demonstrate the feasibility of eliminating co-channel interference caused by a propagation delay of signals, e.g., clock skew. This paper describes the circuit configuration and performance evaluation of MV-CDMA systems for intra-chip communication. We first explain the principle of MV-CDMA technique, and then propose a bidirectional current-mode CMOS technique to realize compact correlation circuits for CDMA. Finally, we show the Spice and MATLAB simulation results of MV-CDMA systems, which indicate the excellent capabilities of eliminating co-channel interference.

  • A Novel Sliding Mode Control of an Electrohydraulic Position Servo System

    In this paper, a novel continuous complementary sliding control was proposed to improve the tracking performance given the available control bandwidth and the extend of parameter uncertainty. With this control law, the ultimate bound of tracking error was shown to be reduced at least by half, as compared with the conventional continuous sliding control. More strikingly, the proposed control can effectively improve the error transient response during the reaching phase. We presented a composite complementary sliding control scheme for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems including the nonlinear electrohydraulic position servo control system, which will be used as an illustrated example. Simulation results indicated exceptional good tracking performance to step and sine wave reference inputs can be obtained. In addition, the disturbance rejection property of the controller to single-frequency sinusoidal disturbances is also outstanding.
