Event-triggered control is a control method that the measured signal is sent to the controller only when a certain triggering condition on the measured signal is satisfied. In this paper, we propose a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) with decentralized triggering conditions. First, a suboptimal solution to the design problem of LQRs with decentralized triggering conditions is derived. A state-feedback gain can be obtained by solving a convex optimization problem with LMI (linear matrix inequality) constraints. Next, the relation between centralized and decentralized triggering conditions is discussed. It is shown that control performance of an LQR with decentralized event-triggering is better than that with centralized event-triggering. Finally, a numerical example is illustrated.

Dry etching is one of the elemental technologies for the fabrication of optical devices. In order to obtain the desired shape using the dry etching process, it is necessary to understand the reactivity of the materials being used to plasma. In particular, III-V compound semiconductors have a multi-layered structure comprising a plurality of elements and thus it is important to first have a full understanding of the basic trends of plasma dry etching, the plasma type and the characteristics of etching plasma sources. In this paper, III-V compound semiconductor etching for use in light sources such as LDs and LEDs, will be described. Glass, LN and LT used in the formation of waveguides and MLA will be introduced as well. And finally, the future prospects of dry etching will be described briefly.

As the number of electronic control units (ECUs) or sensors connected to a controller area network (CAN) bus increases, so does the bus load. When a CAN bus is overloaded by a large number of ECUs, both the waiting time and the error probability of the data transmission are increased. Because the duration of the data transmission is proportional to the frame length, it is desirable to reduce the CAN frame length. In this paper, we present an improved CAN data-reduction (DR) algorithm to reduce the amount of data to be transferred in the CAN frame length. We also implement the data reduction algorithm using the CANoe software, and measure the CAN bus load using a CANcaseXL device. Experimental results with a Kia Sorento vehicle indicate that we can obtain additional average compression ratio of 11.15% with the proposed method compared with the ECANDC algorithm. By using the CANoe software, we show that the average message delay is within 0.10ms and the bus load can be reduced by 23.45% with 20 ECUs using the proposed method compared with the uncompressed message.

Massive MIMO transmission, whose number of antennas is much larger than the number of user terminals, has been attracted much attention as one of key technologies in next-generation mobile communication system because it enables improvement in service area and interference mitigation by simple signal processing. Multi-beam massive MIMO has proposed that utilizes the beam selection with high power in analog part and blind algorithm such as constant modulus algorithm (CMA) which does not need channel state information (CSI) is applied in digital part. Proposed configuration obtains high transmission efficiency. We have evaluated QPSK signals because the CMA basically focuses on the constant amplitude modulation. In this paper, in order to achieve the further higher transmission rate, the amplitude and phase compensation scheme is proposed when using the CMA with amplitude and phase modulation scheme such as QAM. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified by the computer simulation.

The overdrive technique is widely used to eliminate motion blur in liquid-crystal displays (LCDs). However, this technique requires a large frame memory to store the previous frame. A reduction in the frame memory requires an image compression algorithm suitable for real-time data processing. In this paper, we present an algorithm based on multimode-color-conversion block truncation coding (MCC-BTC) to obtain a constant output bit rate and high overdrive performance. The MCC-BTC algorithm uses four compression methods, one of which is selected. The four compression modes either use the single-bitmap-generation method or the subsampling method for chrominance. As shown in the simulation results, the proposed algorithm improves the performance of both coding (up to 2.73dB) and overdrive (up to 2.61dB), and the visual quality is improved in comparison to other competing algorithms in literature.

One of major ideas to design a multivariate public key cryptosystem (MPKC) is to generate its quadratic forms by a polynomial map over an extension field. In fact, Matsumoto-Imai's scheme (1988), HFE (Patarin, 1996), MFE (Wang et al., 2006) and multi-HFE (Chen et al., 2008) are constructed in this way and Sflash (Akkar et al., 2003), Quartz (Patarin et al., 2001), Gui (Petzoldt et al, 2015) are variants of these schemes. An advantage of such extension field type MPKCs is to reduce the numbers of variables and equations to be solved in the decryption process. In the present paper, we study the security of MPKCs whose quadratic forms are derived from a “quadratic” map over an extension field and propose a new attack on such MPKCs. Our attack recovers partial information of the secret affine maps in polynomial time when the field is of odd characteristic. Once such partial information is recovered, the attacker can find the plain-text for a given cipher-text by solving a system of quadratic equations over the extension field whose numbers of variables and equations are same to those of the system of quadratic equations used in the decryption process.

With the fast growth of the international tourism industry, it has been a challenge to forecast the tourism demand in the international tourism market. Traditional forecasting methods usually suffer from the prediction accuracy problem due to the high volatility, irregular movements and non-stationarity of the tourist time series. In this study, a novel single dendritic neuron model (SDNM) is proposed to perform the tourism demand forecasting. First, we use a phase space reconstruction to analyze the characteristics of the tourism and reconstruct the time series into proper phase space points. Then, the maximum Lyapunov exponent is employed to identify the chaotic properties of time series which is used to determine the limit of prediction. Finally, we use SDNM to make a short-term prediction. Experimental results of the forecasting of the monthly foreign tourist arrivals to Japan indicate that the proposed SDNM is more efficient and accurate than other neural networks including the multi-layered perceptron, the neuro-fuzzy inference system, the Elman network, and the single multiplicative neuron model.

This paper presents deep learning to recognize online handwritten mathematical symbols. Recently various deep learning architectures such as Convolution neural networks (CNNs), Deep neural networks (DNNs), Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and Long short-term memory (LSTM) RNNs have been applied to fields such as computer vision, speech recognition and natural language processing where they have shown superior performance to state-of-the-art methods on various tasks. In this paper, max-out-based CNNs and Bidirectional LSTM (BLSTM) networks are applied to image patterns created from online patterns and to the original online patterns, respectively and then combined. They are compared with traditional recognition methods which are MRFs and MQDFs by recognition experiments on the CROHME database along with analysis and explanation.

SUMMARY This paper proposes a power-supply-noise-aware timing analysis and test pattern regeneration framework suitable for testing 3D IC. The proposed framework analyzes timing with reasonable accuracy at much faster speed than existing tools. This technique is very scalable because it is based on analytical functions, instead of solving nonlinear equations. The experimental results show, for small circuits, the error is less than 2% compared with SPICE. For large circuits, we achieved 272 times speed up compared with a commercial tool. For a large benchmark circuit (638K gates), we identified 88 risky patterns out of 31K test patterns. We propose a test pattern regeneration flow to replace those risky patterns with very little (or even no) penalty in fault coverage. Our test sets are shorter than commercial power-aware ATPG while the fault coverage is almost the same as power-unaware ATPG.

Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling is investigated for quasi-static flat fading massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In FTN signaling, pulse trains are sent at a symbol rate higher than the Nyquist rate to increase the transmission rate. As a result, inter-symbol interference occurs inevitably for flat fading channels. This paper assesses the information-theoretically achievable rate of MIMO FTN signaling based on the optimum joint equalization and multiuser detection. The replica method developed in statistical physics is used to evaluate the achievable rate in the large-system limit, where the dimensions of input and output signals tend to infinity at the same rate. An analytical expression of the achievable rate is derived for general modulation schemes in the large-system limit. It is shown that FTN signaling does not improve the channel capacity of massive MIMO systems, and that FTN signaling with quadrature phase-shift keying achieves the channel capacity for all signal-to-noise ratios as the symbol period tends to zero.

Excessive IR-drop in capture mode during at-speed scan testing may cause timing errors for defect-free circuits, resulting in undue test yield loss. Previous solutions for achieving capture-power-safety adjust the switching activity around logic paths, especially long sensitized paths, in order to reduce the impact of IR-drop. However, those solutions ignore the impact of IR-drop on clock paths, namely test clock stretch; as a result, they cannot accurately achieve capture-power-safety. This paper proposes a novel scheme, called LP-CP-aware ATPG, for generating high-quality capture-power-safe at-speed scan test vectors by taking into consideration the switching activity around both logic and clock paths. This scheme features (1) LP-CP-aware path classification for characterizing long sensitized paths by considering the IR-drop impact on both logic and clock paths; (2) LP-CP-aware X-restoration for obtaining more effective X-bits by backtracing from both logic and clock paths; (3) LP-CP-aware X-filling for using different strategies according to the positions of X-bits in test cubes. Experimental results on large benchmark circuits demonstrate the advantages of LP-CP-aware ATPG, which can more accurately achieve capture-power-safety without significant test vector count inflation and test quality loss.

We propose subquadratic space complexity multipliers for any finite field $mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ over the base field $mathbb{F}_q$ using the Dickson basis, where q is a prime power. It is shown that a field multiplication in $mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ based on the Dickson basis results in computations of Toeplitz matrix vector products (TMVPs). Therefore, an efficient computation of a TMVP yields an efficient multiplier. In order to derive efficient $mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ multipliers, we develop computational schemes for a TMVP over $mathbb{F}_{q}$. As a result, the $mathbb{F}_{2^n}$ multipliers, as special cases of the proposed $mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ multipliers, have lower time complexities as well as space complexities compared with existing results. For example, in the case that n is a power of 3, the proposed $mathbb{F}_{2^n}$ multiplier for an irreducible Dickson trinomial has about 14% reduced space complexity and lower time complexity compared with the best known results.

A number of successful tone mapping operators (TMOs) for contrast compression have been proposed due to the need to visualize high dynamic range (HDR) images on low dynamic range devices. This paper proposes a novel inverse tone mapping (TM) operation and a new remapping framework with the operation. Existing inverse TM operations require either the store of some parameters calculated in forward TM, or data-depended operations. The proposed inverse TM operation enables to estimate HDR images from LDR ones mapped by the Reinhard's global operator, not only without keeping any parameters but also without any data-depended calculation. The proposed remapping framework with the inverse operation consists of two TM operations. The first TM operation is carried out by the Reinhard's global operator, and then the generated LDR one is stored. When we want different quality LDR ones, the proposed inverse TM operation is applied to the stored LDR one to generate an HDR one, and the second TM operation is applied to the HDR one to generate an LDR one with desirable quality, by using an arbitrary TMO. This framework allows not only to visualize an HDR image on low dynamic range devices at low computing cost, but also to efficiently store an HDR one as an LDR one. In simulations, it is shown that the proposed inverse TM operation has low computational cost, compared to the conventional ones. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the proposed framework allows to remap the stored LDR one to another LDR one whose quality is the same as that of the LDR one remapped by the conventional inverse TMO with parameters.

For the nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation, we present an algorithm to estimate the threshold of the clipping effect and the room impulse response vector by suppressing their time-varying cost function. A common way to suppress the time-varying cost function of a pair of parameters is to alternatingly minimize the function with respect to each parameter while keeping the other fixed, which we refer to as adaptive alternating minimization. However, since the cost function for the threshold is nonconvex, the conventional methods approximate the exact minimizations by gradient descent updates, which causes serious degradation of the estimation accuracy in some occasions. In this paper, by exploring the fact that the cost function for the threshold becomes piecewise quadratic, we propose to exactly minimize the cost function for the threshold in a closed form while suppressing the cost function for the impulse response vector in an online manner, which we call exact-online adaptive alternating minimization. The proposed method is expected to approximate more efficiently the adaptive alternating minimization strategy than the conventional methods. Numerical experiments demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

The Android pattern unlock is a popular graphical password scheme, where a user is presented a 3×3 grid and required to draw a pattern on the onscreen grid. Each pattern is a sequence of at least four contact points with some restrictions. Theoretically, the security level of unlock patterns is determined by the size of the pattern space. However, the number of possible patterns is only known for 3×3 and 4×4 grids, which was computed by brute-force enumeration. The only mathematical formula for the number of possible patterns is a permutation-based upper bound. In this article, we present an improved upper bound by counting the number of “visible” points that can be directly reached by a point.

This paper proposes an address power reduction method for plasma display panels (PDPs) using subfield data smoothing based on a visual masking effect. High-resolution, high-frame-rate PDPs have large address power loss caused by parasitic capacitance. Although the address power is reduced by smoothing the subfield data, noise is generated. The proposed method reduces the address power while maintaining the image quality by choosing the smoothing area of the address data based on the visual masking effect. The results of subjective assessment for the images based on smoothed address data indicate that image quality is maintained.

A modularized, low-cost, and non-invasive electrochemical examination platform is proposed in this work. Melatonin has been found to be a possible significant indicator molecule in the detection of breast cancer. 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid and nuclear matrix protein 22 can be used as a significant index for potential bladder cancer risks. The previous researches on the chaotic CDMA have theoretically derived the chaotic sequences having the minimum asynchronous cross-correlation. To minimize the asynchronous cross-correlation, autocorrelation of each sequence have to be C(τ)≈C×rτ, r=-2+√3, dumped oscillation with increase of the lag τ. There are several methods to generate such sequences, using a chaotic map, using the Lebesgue spectrum filter (LSF) and so on. In this paper, such lowest cross-correlation found in the chaotic CDMA researches is applied to solution search algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems. In combinatorial optimization, effectiveness of the chaotic search has already been clarified. First, an importance of chaos and autocorrelation with dumped oscillation for combinatorial optimization is shown. Next, in order to realize ideal solution search, the LSF is applied to the Hopfield-Tank neural network, the 2-opt method and the 2-exchange method. Effectiveness of the LSF is clarified even for the large problems for the traveling salesman problems and the quadratic assignment problems.
