  • The Security of the Improvement on the Generalization of Threshold Signature and Authenticated Encryption

    Wang et al., in 2000, proposed a generalized group-oriented threshold signature scheme and a generalized authenticated encryption scheme with shared verification. Tseng et al., in 2001, showed that both schemes are insecure, because any attacker is able to reveal the group secret keys from two previously valid threshold signatures. They further presented two improvements on Wang et al.'s schemes to against the attacks. Unfortunately, this paper will show that the improved schemes are still breakable.

    The electromagnetic wave scattering from ocean-like lossy dielectric random rough surfaces is numerically analyzed by using FVTD method. We have investigated the problem of low-grazing-angle (LGA) scattering in order to gain a better understanding of experimental data for the microwave backscattering from ocean-like surfaces. It is indicated that the FVTD results are in good agreement with the experimental data.

    Interpolation surfaces, such as Bezier or B-spline surface, are usually used for representing smooth man-made objects and provide an excellent ability to control the shape of a surface by intuitively moving control points. In contrast, the fractal technique is used for creating various complex shapes, mainly of natural objects, that have self-similarity using simple procedures. We have proposed the "wrinkly surface (WR surface)" for combining the advantages of interpolation surfaces and fractals. In this paper, we propose the expansion of the construction scheme of the WR surface to irregular meshes. Control points of a WR surface are interpolated using the "Iterated Shuffle Transformation (IST)." Therefore, in order to achieve the expansion, we first generalize the IST on code spaces, and then propose multi-dimensional IST defined on geometric spaces. By creating various shape model examples, we demonstrate the usefulness of the WR surface as a modeling tool.

    In this paper, a useful technique is proposed for realizing high speed IDDQ tests. By using the technique, load capacitors of the CMOS logic gates can be charged quickly, whose output logic values change from L to H by applying a test input vector to a circuit under test. The technique is applied to built-in IDDQ sensor design and external IDDQ sensor design. It is shown experimentally that high speed IDDQ tests can be realized by using the technique.

  • Analysis and Testing of Analog and Mixed-Signal Circuits by an Operation-Region Model

    This paper proposes an operation-region model for analyzing and testing analog and mixed-signal circuits, which is based on observation of change in MOSFET operation regions. First, the relation between the change in MOSFET operation regions and the fault behavior of a mixed-signal circuit containing a bridging fault is investigated. Next, we propose an analysis procedure based on the operation-region model and apply it to generate the optimal input combination for testing the circuit. We also determine which transistors should be observed in order to estimate the circuit behavior. Since the operation-region model is a method for modeling circuit behavior abstractly, the proposed method will be useful for modeling circuit behavior and for analyzing and testing many kinds of analog and mixed-signal circuits.

    In this paper, a new test method is proposed for detecting open defects in CMOS logic ICs. The method is based on supply current of ICs generated by supplying time-variable supply voltage and electric field from the outside of the ICs. Also, test input vectors for the test method are proposed and it is shown that they can be generated more easily than functional test methods based on stuck-at fault models. The feasibility of the test is examined by some experiments. The empirical results promise us that by using the method, open defects in CMOS ICs can be detected.

    The transient phenomenon of electromagnetic waves caused by a time dependent resistive screen in a waveguide is treated by using Wiener-Hopf technique. A boundary-value problem is formulated to describe the phenomenon, in which the resistivity of screen varies from infinite to zero in dependence on time. Application of the Fourier transformation with respect to time derives a Wiener-Hopf equation, which is solved by a commonly known decomposition procedure. The transient field is derived from the solution of the equation in terms of the Fourier inverse transform. By using the incomplete Lipschitz-Hankel integral for the computation of the field, numerical examples are given and the transient phenomenon is discussed.

    Low-profile inverter power supplies are increasingly required for backlight systems of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). A great deal of attention has been focused on the application of piezoelectric transformers (PTs) to such power supplies. To miniaturize PT inverters still further, PTs need to have sufficient high voltage-step-up-ratio, which can be achieved by a multilayered PT. First, this paper describes a method for simulating such performance using a distributed constant equivalent circuit model. The results of the simulation for a multilayered PT operated in the third order longitudinal vibration mode show that the resistance of internal electrodes causes the dominant loss factor. Next, a power inverter incorporating the multilayered PT was fabricated. This power inverter can be operated over a wide input DC voltage range from 7-20 V. Regarding a conventional inverter drive circuit, when input DC voltage range was extended, the inverter efficiency remarkably decreased. For the reason, we developed a new inverter circuit, which is equipped with an automatic drive voltage control circuit to maintain the drive voltage to the PT at a constant value. As a result, the fabricated power inverter exhibited more than 90% overall efficiency and 3.5 W output power, which is enough to light up a 12.1-inch color LCD. The maximum luminance efficiency on a light transmission plate of the backlight was as high as 30 cd/m2/W.

  • A Dynamic Delayed ACK Control Scheme and Its Evaluation on MobileIP Networks

    During TCP/IP communications, MobileIP routing optimization functions causes out-of-order TCP packet sequences. To solve this problem, we propose a dynamic delayed ACK control scheme in which the wireless link-state management part notifies the upper TCP/IP layer of base-station hand-over, and at this time the TCP/IP layer sends dynamic delayed ACKs in response by using two-level-timer (i.e., hard-timer and soft-timer) processing. Simulation results confirm that applying dynamic delayed ACK control to MobileIP networks improves average throughput.

    As two simple relaxation oscillators are coupled by periodical and instantaneous switching, the system exhibits rich superstable synchronous phenomena. In order to analyze the phenomena, we derive a hybrid return map of real and binary variables; and give theoretical results for (1) superstability of the synchronous phenomena and (2) period of the synchronous phenomena as a function of the parameters. Using a simple test circuit, typical phenomena are verified in the laboratory.

    The plan of High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) is considered as a revolutionary wireless system plan with several economic and technological advantages over both space- or ground-based counterparts. In this paper, we propose a joint system of terrestrial and HAPS cellular for Wideband-CDMA mobile communication. This system makes the conventional terrestrial W-CDMA cellular area smaller and the remainder area covered by HAPS to increase the total capacity. Furthermore in down link channel, we introduce the polarized wave and doughnut-like radiation. However, in the proposed system, the performance would be dependent on the terminal position especially near the boundary of doughnut-like cell zone. To overcome this, site diversity that uses both signals from terrestrial Base Station and HAPS Base Station is also introduced. To confirm the availability of the proposed system, we evaluate the system performance by computer simulation.

  • Minimizing Up-Front Data Transmission on Web Based Vector GIS

    In conventional Web Geographic Information System (GIS), there are serious drawbacks of high waiting time and low accessibility because the subsequent query has to wait until all the spatial data has been completely transmitted. In addressing these problems, this paper proposes a progressive transmission method which can reduce waiting time and increase accessibility. The proposed method has the following steps. First, significant vertices of geographic objects are selected into based on an algorithm, Priority_Order_Estimation (POE). Second, the selected vertices are inserted the data structure, Priority_Order_Queue (POQ). This allows a client to view, to request and occasionally to reject spatial data, rather than waiting for the whole map to arrive. Third, the transmission steps are processed progressively, where significant vertices of POQ are sent from server to client one by one. In the final step, if necessary, the entire spatial data set of SENDOBJSP, which is a transmission structure, is transmitted so that the original map is accurately displayed. The performance of the system proposed here has been evaluated according to the factors such as system response time and client storage space. For the comparisons, the total transmission method, layer transmission method and the proposed four-step transmission method were used. Compared with the conventional Web-based GIS, the system response time is twenty-two percent shorter and client storage space is reduced by about twenty-one percent. As a result, performance improvement, fast response time and less client storage usage, is achieved. Therefore, the proposed method can make a significant contribution in support of Web-based Vector GIS applications such as Environmental Management, Map On Demand Service and Assessment and Planning System.

    This paper proposes a channel monitor-based unequal error protection scheme using a dynamic OFDM subcarrier assignment technique for broadband video transmission systems in frequency selective fading environments. In the proposed system, to achieve stable regeneration of the received video, subcarriers with relatively high channel gain are assigned to the high priority data (HPD) in the MPEG data. To further guarantee a required transmission quality of the HPD, the proposed system also employs subcarrier transmission power control with delay profile information (DPI) feedback-type channel estimation technique. Computer simulation confirms that the proposed technique is effective in preventing quality degradation with about 20 dB lower transmission power than the conventional systems in frequency selective fading environments.

  • Improvement of BPSK Space-Time Turbo Code with Full Rate and Full Antenna Diversity

    Space-time turbo codes have both advantages of space-time codes and turbo codes, and the space-time turbo code proposed by Su and Geraniotis is known to achieve full coding rate and full antenna diversity. This paper presents some improvements of their space-time turbo code in a two-antenna configuration. We first propose a new condition for full antenna diversity which imposes less constraints on the interleaver. Next, by applying a method used to improve turbo trellis-coded modulation to the space-time turbo code, we propose a new decoding algorithm which utilizes more precise estimates on extrinsic information. Simulation results show that the proposed condition assures full antenna diversity and the new decoding algorithm provides a better performance than that of Su and Geraniotis'.

    This paper presents an optimum antenna diversity combining method associated with despreading that employs Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) combining over the frequency domain in a frequency-selective fading channel for forward link Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing (OFCDM) wireless access, in order to achieve the maximum radio link capacity. Simulation results considering various propagation channel conditions elucidate that the antenna diversity combining method with Equal Gain Combining (EGC) subsequent to the despreading employing MMSE combining based on pilot symbol-assisted channel estimation and interference power estimation can decrease the required average received signal energy per bit-to-background noise power spectrum density ratio (Eb/N0) the most, taking into account the impact of the inter-code interference. Furthermore, we clarify that the required average received Eb/N0 for the average packet error rate of 10-2 employing the diversity combining scheme with EGC after despreading with MMSE combining is improved by approximately 0.3 dB compared to the diversity combining scheme with EGC before despreading with MMSE combining at the number of code-multiplexing of 24 for the spreading factor of 32 in a 24-path Rayleigh fading channel.

    Transmit diversity, a key technique derived against multi-path mitigation in wireless communication system, is examined and discussed. Especially, we present an approach to investigate perfect/imperfect channel detection when the maximal ratio receiver combined scheme (MRRC) and a simple transmit diversity scheme (STD) are used in the wireless systems, which provide remarkable schemes for diversity transmission over Rayleigh-fading channels using multiple antennas. In order to effectively make use of the transmit diversity techniques, the same approach is extended to process the situation of one transmit antennas and N receive antennas in MRRC scheme (1 N MRRC) and two transmit antennas and N receive antennas in STD scheme (2 N STD). The effects of perfect/imperfect channel detection and the diversity reception with independent and correlated Rayleigh-fading signals are evaluated and compared carefully.

    The increase of test time of embedded DRAMs (e-DRAM) is one of the key issues of System-on-chip (SOC) device test. This paper proposes to put the repair analysis function on chip as Built In Self Repair (BISR). BISR is performed at 166 MHz as at-speed of e-DRAM with using low cost automatic test equipment (ATE). The area of the BISR is 1.7 mm2. Using error storage table form contributes to realize small area penalty of repair analysis function. e-DRAM function test time by BISR was about 20% less than the conventional method at wafer level testing. Moreover, representative samples are produced to confirm repair analysis ability. The results show that all of the samples are actually repaired by repair information generated by BISR.

    This paper presents a practical fault model for delay testing, called a multiple-threshold gate-delay fault model, to obtain high quality tests that guarantee the detection of delay faults for various extra-delays. Fault efficiencies for multiple thresholds of the extra-delay are introduced as a coverage metric that describes the quality of tests. Our approach guarantees that each gate-delay fault is tested on the path that is almost the longest one passing through the faulty line by using two-pattern tests with pattern-independent timing. We present the procedures of the path selection, fault simulation, and the test generation, where the path-status graph technique is used as not to rely on the enumeration of paths. Experimental results for benchmark circuits demonstrate that the proposed metric gives useful information that transition fault efficiency cannot, and that the proposed test generation can achieve high fault efficiencies for multiple-threshold gate-delay faults.

    According to the grey data generating techniques in grey system theory, we propose a novel cryptosystem, whose applications can develop a new direction in the field of information security. In this paper, we present the concepts of sum-lock, difference-lock, sum-ladder, and difference-ladder. By using these concepts, we can obtain a cryptosystem with lock generation and sum-difference replacement ladder. In addition, we provide the encryption and decryption algorithms of our cryptosystem and adopt an illustrative example to verify it.

  • Channel Assignment Based Call Admission Control in a Multi-Chip Rate CDMA Cellular System

    Emerging requirement for higher rate data services and better spectrum efficiency is the main driving force identified for the third generation mobile radio systems. Moreover, it needs the capability of providing predictable qualities of service (QoS) for different applications. To maintain different QoS requirements, mechanisms such as call admission control (CAC) and load control, etc. are needed to achieve the required services. In this paper, we propose a CAC algorithm based on channel assignment in a multi-chip rate direct-sequence CDMA (MCR-DS-CDMA) cellular system supporting multi-rate services. Five multi-MBC (mapping of information bit rates to chip rates) channel assignment schemes and corresponding channel selection rules are proposed herein. Computer simulation, where multimedia applications are considered, is used to evaluate the system performance (e.g., blocking probability and system capacity) with different channel assignment schemes. Numerical results demonstrate that scheme 5 (i.e., Minimum-influence scheme) performs better because it provides the highest system capacity and least blocking probability.
