Multi-dimensional (MD) periodic complementary array sets (CASs) with impulse-like MD periodic autocorrelation function are naturally generalized to (one dimensional) periodic complementary sequence sets, and such array sets are widely applied to communication, radar, sonar, coded aperture imaging, and so forth. In this letter, based on multi-dimensional perfect arrays (MD PAs), a method for constructing MD periodic CASs is presented, which is carried out by sampling MD PAs. It is particularly worth mentioning that the numbers and sizes of sub-arrays in the proposed MD periodic CASs can be freely changed within the range of possibilities. In particular, for arbitrarily given positive integers M and L, two-dimensional periodic polyphase CASs with the number M2 and size L L of sub-arrays can be produced by the proposed method. And analogously, pseudo-random MD periodic CASs can be given when pseudo-random MD arrays are sampled. Finally, the proposed method's validity is made sure by a given example.

Correction factors are presented for estimating the RF electromagnetic field strength in the compliance assessment of human exposure from an indoor RF radio source in the frequency range from 800 MHz to 3.5 GHz. The correction factors are derived from the increase in the spatial average electric field strength distribution, which is dependent on the building materials. The spatial average electric field strength is calculated using relative complex dielectric constants of building materials. The relative complex dielectric constant is obtained through measurement of the transmission and reflection losses for eleven kinds of building materials used in business office buildings and single family dwellings.
In this paper, we present a new composite transistor circuit design technique that provides superior performance enhancement to analog circuits. By adding a composite transistor to the cascode-compensated amplifier, it has achieved a 102 dB DC gain, and a 37.6 MHz unity gain bandwidth while driving a 2 nF heavy capacitive load at a single 1.8 V supply. In the comparison of power-bandwidth and power-speed efficiencies on figures of merit, it offers significantly high values with respect to the reported state-of-the-art works. By employing the composite transistor in a linear regulator powered by a 3.3 V supply to generate a 1.8 V output voltage, it has shown fast recovery response at various load current transients, having a 1% settling time of 0.1 µS for a 50 mA or 100 mA step, while a 1% settling time of 0.36 µS for a maximum 735 mA step under a capacitive load of 10 µF with a 1 Ω ESR resistor. The simulated load regulation is 0.035% and line regulation is 0.488%. Comparing its results with other state-of-art LDO reported results, it also validates the significant enhanced performance of the proposed composite-transistor-based design in terms of speed, current driving capability and stability against changes in environmental parameters. All the proposed designs are simulated using chartered semiconductor (CSM) 1.8 V/3.3 V 0.18 µm CMOS triple-well process technology with thin/thick oxide options and BSIM3 model parameters.

A circular cavity resonance method is improved to measure the frequency dependence of complex permittivity of a dielectric plate by using multimode TE0m1 with integer m. The measurement principle is based on a rigorous analysis by the Ritz-Galerkin method. A new circular cavity with lowered height is designed from a mode chart of a cavity to decrease the number of unwanted modes near the TE0m1 modes. A copper cavity having 20 GHz for the TE011 mode was constructed based on this design. For glass cloth PTFE, RT/duroid 6010 and FR-4 dielectric plates, the frequency dependences are measured from resonant frequencies for the TE0m1 (m = 1, 2, 3 ...) modes. These measured results agree well with ones measured by using the conventional four different size cavities with TE011 mode. It is verified that the designed cavity structure is useful to measure the frequency dependence of low loss dielectric plates.

In this paper, a fully integrated 5 GHz voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is presented. The VCO is designed with 0.18 µm silicon complementary metal oxide semiconductor (Si-CMOS) process. To achieve low phase noise, a novel varactors pair circuit is proposed to cancel effects of capacitance fluctuation that makes harmonic currents which increase phase noise of VCO. The VCO with the proposed varactor circuit has tuning range from 5.1 GHz to 6.1 GHz (relative value of 17.9%) and phase noise of lower than -110.8 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset over the full tuning range. Figure-of-merit-with-tuning-range (FOMT) of the proposed VCO is -182 dBc/Hz.
There is evidence in favor of a relationship between the presence of 1/f noise and computational universality in cellular automata. To confirm the relationship, we search for two-dimensional cellular automata with a 1/f power spectrum by means of genetic algorithms. The power spectrum is calculated from the evolution of the state of the cell, starting from a random initial configuration. The fitness is estimated by the power spectrum with consideration of the spectral similarity to the 1/f spectrum. The result shows that the rule with the highest fitness over the most runs exhibits a 1/f type spectrum and its transition function and behavior are quite similar to those of the Game of Life, which is known to be a computationally universal cellular automaton. These results support the relationship between the presence of 1/f noise and computational universality.

Context-aware systems detect user's physical and social contexts based on sensor networks, and provide services that adapt to the user accordingly. Representing, detecting, and managing the contexts are important issues in context-aware systems. Composition of contexts is a useful method for these works, since it can detect a context by automatically composing small pieces of information to discover service. Danger-aware services are a kind of context-aware services which need description of relations between a user and his/her surrounding objects and between users. However when applying the existing composition methods to danger-aware services, they show the following shortcomings that (1) they have not provided an explicit method for representing composition of multi-user' contexts, (2) there is no flexible reasoning mechanism based on similarity of contexts, so that they can just provide services exactly following the predefined context reasoning rules. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a two-stage composition method based on context similarity to solve the above problems. The first stage is composition of the useful information to represent the context for a single user. The second stage is composition of multi-users' contexts to provide services by considering the relation of users. Finally the danger degree of the detected context is computed by using context similarity between the detected context and the predefined context. Context is dynamically represented based on two-stage composition rules and a Situation theory based Ontology, which combines the advantages of Ontology and Situation theory. We implement the system in an indoor ubiquitous environment, and evaluate the system through two experiments with the support of subjects. The experiment results show the method is effective, and the accuracy of danger detection is acceptable to a danger-aware system.

A low power impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) receiver for DC-960 MHz band is proposed in this paper. The proposed receiver employs multiple DC power-free charge-domain sampling correlators to eliminate the need for phase synchronization. To alleviate BER degradation due to an increased charge injection in a subtraction operation in the sampling correlator than that of an addition operation, a comparator with variable threshold (=offset) voltage is used, which enables an addition-only operation. The developed receiver fabricated in 1.2 V 65 nm CMOS achieves the lowest energy consumption of 17.6 pJ/bit at 100 Mbps in state-of-the-art correlation-based UWB receivers.

For an arbitrary set B of Boolean functions satisfying a certain condition, we give a general method of constructing a class CB of read-once Boolean formulas over the basis B that has the following property: For any F in CB, F can be transformed to an optimal formula (i.e., a simplest formula over the standard basis {AND, OR, NOT}) by replacing each occurrence of a basis function h ∈ B in F with an optimal formula for h. For a particular set of basis functions B* = {AND,OR,NOT,XOR,MUX}, we give a canonical form representation for CB* so that the set of canonical form formulas consists of only NPN-representatives in CB*.
An operational amplifier is one of the key functional blocks and is widely used in analog and mixed-signal circuits. For low-power consumption, many techniques such as class AB and slew-rate enhancement have been proposed. Although phase compensation is related to power consumption, it has not been clearly discussed from the viewpoint of the power consumption. In this paper, the conventional and the improved Miller compensations and the phase compensation by introducing a new zero are dicussed for low-power operational amplifiers.

A 2.4 GHz 0.13 µm CMOS transceiver LSI, supporting Bluetooth V2.1+enhanced data rate (EDR) standard, has achieved a high reception sensitivity and high-quality transmission signals between -40 and +90. A low-IF receiver and direct-conversion transmitter architecture are employed. A temperature compensated receiver chain including a low-noise amplifier accomplishes a sensitivity of -90 dBm at frequency shift keying modulation even in the worst environmental condition. Design optimization of phase noise in a local oscillator and linearity of a power amplifier improves transmission signals and enables them to meet Bluetooth radio specifications. Fabrication in scaled 0.13 µm CMOS and operation at a low supply voltage of 1.5 V result in small area and low power consumption.

In this letter, a new CCM material, adding Ni powder to a conventional CCM, for X-band applications is designed and analyzed to improve the SE. To obtain the SE of the fabricated CCM accurately, material constants of the CCM of the permittivity and permeability were extracted using transmission/reflection measurements. Using the material constants derived from the measurement, the SE was calculated and the results were verified using a commercial full-wave three-dimensional electromagnetic wave simulator. The SE of the proposed the CCM was improved by approximately 4 dB in the X band compared to that of a conventional CCM. The CCM proposed in this paper can be applied as a shielding material as well as for housing of various communication systems and electrical instruments.
Consider a client who intends to perform a massive computing task comprsing a number of sub-tasks, while both storage and computation are outsourced by a third-party service provider. How could the client ensure the integrity and completeness of the computation result? Meanwhile, how could the assurance mechanism incur no disincentive, e.g., excessive communication cost, for any service provider or client to participate in such a scheme? We detail this problem and present a general model of execution assurance for massive computing tasks. A series of key features distinguish our work from existing ones: a) we consider the context wherein both storage and computation are provided by untrusted third parties, and client has no data possession; b) we propose a simple yet effective assurance model based on a novel integration of the machineries of data authentication and computational private information retrieval (cPIR); c) we conduct an analytical study on the inherent trade-offs among the verification accuracy, and the computation, storage, and communication costs.

An on-chip process, supply voltage, and temperature (PVT) compensation technique for low-voltage CMOS digital circuits was proposed. Because the degradation of circuit performance originates from the variation of the saturation current in transistors, we developed a compensation circuit consisting of a reference current that is independent of PVT variations. The circuit is operated so that the saturation current in digital circuits is equal to the reference current. The operations of the circuit were confirmed by SPICE simulation with a set of 0.35-µm standard CMOS parameters. Monte Carlo simulations showed that the proposed technique effectively improves circuit performance by 71%. The circuit is useful for on-chip compensation to mitigate the degradation of circuit performance with PVT variation in low-voltage digital circuits.
This letter investigates the space complexity of the sender buffer in a TCP variant, TCP-PR, to deal with packet reordering. Our finding is that with the SACK option used, TCP-PR requires the sender buffer of (β+1) pipesize where β indicates the number of RTTs that must pass before packet loss is detected.

This paper investigates the closure properties of 1-inkdot nondeterministic Turing machines and 1-inkdot alternating Turing machines with only universal states which have sublogarithmic space. We show for example that the classes of sets accepted by these Turing machines are not closed under length-preserving homomorphism, concatenation with regular set, Kleene closure, and complementation.

This paper proposes a pattern partitioning algorithm that maps multiple target patterns onto homogeneous memory-based string matchers. The proposed algorithm adopts the greedy search based on lexicographical sorting. By mapping as many target patterns as possible onto each string matcher, the memory requirements are greatly reduced.

We propose a moving picture coding by lapped transform and an edge adaptive deblocking filter to reduce the blocking distortion. We apply subband coding (SBC) with lapped transform (LT) and zero pruning set partitioning in hierarchical trees (zpSPIHT) to encode the difference picture. Effective coding using zpSPIHT was achieved by quantizing and pruning the quantized zeros. The blocking distortion caused by block motion compensated prediction is reduced by an edge adaptive deblocking filter. Since the original edges can be detected precisely at the reference picture, an edge adaptive deblocking filter on the predicted picture is very effective. Experimental results show that blocking distortion has been visually reduced at very low bit rate coding and better PSNRs of about 1.0 dB was achieved.
This paper presents a new approach to precompute points [3]P, [5]P,..., [2k-1]P, for some k ≥ 2 on an elliptic curve over Fp. Those points are required for the efficient evaluation of a scalar multiplication, the most important operation in elliptic curve cryptography. The proposed method precomputes the points in affine coordinates and needs only one single field inversion for the computation. The new method is superior to all known methods that also use one field inversion, if the required memory is taken into consideration. Compared to methods that require several field inversions for the precomputation, the proposed method is faster for a broad range of ratios of field inversions and field multiplications. The proposed method benefits especially from ratios as they occur on smart cards.

Inductive theorem proving plays an important role in the field of formal verification of systems. The rewriting induction (RI) is a method for inductive theorem proving proposed by Reddy. In order to obtain successful proofs, it is very important to choose appropriate contexts (such as in which direction each equation should be oriented) when applying RI inference rules. If the choice is not appropriate, the procedure may diverge or the users have to come up with several lemmas to prove together with the main theorem. Therefore we have a good reason to consider parallel execution of several instances of the rewriting induction procedure, each in charge of a distinguished single context in search of a successful proof. In this paper, we propose a new procedure, called multi-context rewriting induction, which efficiently simulates parallel execution of rewriting induction procedures in a single process, based on the idea of the multi-completion procedure. By the experiments with a well-known problem set, we discuss the effectiveness of the proposed procedure when searching along various contexts for a successful inductive proof.
