Sparse-view CT reconstruction has gained significant attention due to the growing concerns about radiation safety. Although recent deep learning-based image domain reconstruction methods have achieved encouraging performance over iterative methods, effectively capturing intricate details and organ structures while suppressing noise remains challenging. This study presents a novel dual-stream encoder-decoder-based reconstruction network that combines global path reconstruction from the entire image with local path reconstruction from image patches. These two branches interact through an attention module, which enhances visual quality and preserves image details by learning correlations between image features and patch features. Visual and numerical results show that the proposed method has superior reconstruction capabilities to state-of-the-art 180-, 90-, and 45-view CT reconstruction methods.

In this paper, we consider an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based multiuser full-duplex wireless powered communication network (FD WPCN) system with beamforming (BF) at an energy transmitter (ET). The ET performs BF to efficiently transmit energy to multiple users while suppressing interference to an information receiver (IR). Multiple users operating in full-duplex mode harvest energy from the signals sent by the ET while simultaneously transmitting information to the IR using the harvested energy. We analytically demonstrate that the FD WPCN is superior to its half-duplex (HD) WPCN counterpart in the high-SNR regime. We propose a transmitter design method that maximizes the sum rate by determining the BF at the ET, power allocation at both the ET and users, and sub-band allocation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This study presents a novel waveguide slot array with a code-division multiplexing function for single RF chain digital beamforming. The proposed antenna is comprised of a rectangular metallic waveguide’s bottom part and a multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) with the rectangular waveguide’s top wall and slot apertures. Multiple pairs of two symmetric longitudinal slots are etched on the metal surface of the PCB, and a PIN diode is mounted across each slot. The received signals of each slot pair are multiplexed in a code-division multiplexing fashion by switching the diodes’ bias according to the Walsh Hadamard code, and the original signals are then recovered through a despreading process in the digital domain for digital beamforming. A prototype antenna with eight slot pairs has been fabricated and tested for proof of concept. The measured results show the feasibility of the proposed antenna.

Integrated Sensing and Communication at terahertz band (ISAC-THz) has been considered as one of the promising technologies for the future 6G. However, in the phase-shifters (PSs) based massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) hybrid precoding system, due to the ultra-large bandwidth of the terahertz frequency band, the subcarrier channels with different frequencies have different equivalent spatial directions. Therefore, the hybrid beamforming at the transmitter will cause serious beam split problems. In this letter, we propose a dual-function radar communication (DFRC) precoding method by considering recently proposed delay-phase precoding structure for THz massive MIMO. By adding delay phase components between the radio frequency chain and the frequency-independent PSs, the beam is aligned with the target physical direction over the entire bandwidth to reduce the loss caused by beam splitting effect. Furthermore, we employ a hardware structure by using true-time-delayers (TTDs) to realize the concept of frequency-dependent phase shifts. Theoretical analysis and simulation results have shown that it can increase communication performance and make up for the performance loss caused by the dual-function trade-off of communication radar to a certain extent.

In this letter, we study the dynamic antenna grouping and the hybrid beamforming for high altitude platform (HAP) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. We first exploit the fact that the ergodic sum rate is only related to statistical channel state information (SCSI) in the large-scale array regime, and then we utilize it to perform the dynamic antenna grouping and design the RF beamformer. By applying the Gershgorin Circle Theorem, the dynamic antenna grouping is realized based on the novel statistical distance metric instead of the value of the instantaneous channels. The RF beamformer is designed according to the singular value decomposition of the statistical correlation matrix according to the obtained dynamic antenna group. Dynamic subarrays mean each RF chain is linked with a dynamic antenna sub-set. The baseband beamformer is derived by utilizing the zero forcing (ZF). Numerical results demonstrate the performance enhancement of our proposed dynamic hybrid precoding (DHP) algorithm.

Despite the appealing advantages of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) aided mmWave communications, there remain practical issues that need to be addressed before the large-scale deployment of RISs in future wireless networks. In this study, we jointly consider the non-neglectable practical issues in a multi-RIS-aided mmWave system, which can significantly affect the secrecy performance, including the high computational complexity, imperfect channel state information (CSI), and finite resolution of phase shifters. To solve this non-convex challenging stochastic optimization problem, we propose a robust and low-complexity algorithm to maximize the achievable secrete rate. Specially, by combining the benefits of fractional programming and the stochastic successive convex approximation techniques, we transform the joint optimization problem into some convex ones and solve them sub-optimally. The theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms could mitigate the joint negative effects of practical issues and yielded a tradeoff between secure performance and complexity/overhead outperforming non-robust benchmarks, which increases the robustness and flexibility of multiple RIS deployments in future wireless networks.

In this paper, we propose a noise-robust scream detection method with the aim of expanding the scream detection system, a sound-based security system. The proposed method uses enhanced screams using Wave-U-Net, which was effective as a noise reduction method for noisy screams. However, the enhanced screams showed different frequency components from clean screams and erroneously emphasized frequency components similar to scream in noise. Therefore, Wave-U-Net was applied even in the process of training Gaussian mixture models, which are discriminators. We conducted detection experiments using the proposed method in various noise environments and determined that the false acceptance rate was reduced by an average of 2.1% or more compared with the conventional method.

Analog beamforming with broadband large-scale antenna arrays in millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems faces the beam squint problem. In this paper, we first investigate the sensitivity of analog beamforming to subarray spatial separations in wideband mmWave systems using hybrid arrays, and propose optimized subarray separations. We then design improved analog beamforming after phase compensation based on Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence to flatten the frequency response of radio frequency (RF) equivalent channel. Considering a single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) scheme at the receiver, we derive low-complexity linear zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum mean squared error (MMSE) equalizers in terms of output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) after equalization. Simulation results show that the improved analog beamforming can effectively remove frequency-selective deep fading caused by beam squint, and achieve better bit-error-rate performance compared with the conventional analog beamforming.

Similarity search for data streams has attracted much attention for information recommendation. In this context, recent leading works regard the latest W items in a data stream as an evolving set and reduce similarity search for data streams to set similarity search. Whereas they consider standard sets composed of items, this paper uniquely studies similarity search for text streams and treats evolving sets whose elements are texts. Specifically, we formulate a new continuous range search problem named the CTS problem (Continuous similarity search for Text Sets). The task of the CTS problem is to find all the text streams from the database whose similarity to the query becomes larger than a threshold ε. It abstracts a scenario in which a user-based recommendation system searches similar users from social networking services. The CTS is important because it allows both the query and the database to change dynamically. We develop a fast pruning-based algorithm for the CTS. Moreover, we discuss how to speed up it with the inverted index.

This paper proposes a multibeam digital predistorter (DPD) that suppresses intercarrier interference caused by nonlinear distortions of power amplifiers (PAs) while reducing the power consumption of a multibeam array antenna transmitter. The proposed DPD reduces power consumption by allowing the final PAs of the array antenna transmitter to operate in a highly efficient nonlinear mode and compensating for the nonlinear distortions of the PAs with a unified dedicated DPD per subarray. Additionally, it provides the required high-quality signal transmission for high throughputs, such as realizing a 256-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) transmission instead of a 64-QAM transmission. Specifically, it adds an inverse-component signal to cancel the interference from an adjacent carrier of another beam. Consequently, it can suppress the intercarrier interference in the beam direction and improve the error vector magnitude (EVM) during the multibeam transmission, in which the frequency bands of the beams are adjacent. The experimental results obtained for two beams at 28.0 and 28.4GHz demonstrate that, compared with the previous single-beam DPD, the proposed multibeam DPD can improve the EVM. Also, they demonstrate that the proposed DPD can achieve an EVM value of <3%, which completely satisfies the 3GPP requirements for a 256-QAM transmission.

Frame synchronization detection before data transmission is an important module which directly affects the lifetime and coexistence of underwater acoustic communication (UAC) networks, where linear frequency modulation (LFM) is a frame preamble signal commonly used for synchronization. Unlike terrestrial wireless communications, strong bursty noise frequently appears in UAC. Due to the long transmission distance and the low signal-to-noise ratio, strong short-distance bursty noise will greatly reduce the accuracy of conventional fractional fourier transform (FrFT) detection. We propose a multi-segment verification fractional fourier transform (MFrFT) preamble detection algorithm to address this challenge. In the proposed algorithm, 4 times of adjacent FrFT operations are carried out. And the LFM signal identifies by observing the linear correlation between two lines connected in pair among three adjacent peak points, called ‘dual-line-correlation mechanism’. The accurate starting time of the LFM signal can be found according to the peak frequency of the adjacent FrFT. More importantly, MFrFT do not result in an increase in computational complexity. Compared with the conventional FrFT detection method, experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively distinguish between signal starting points and bursty noise with much lower error detection rate, which in turn minimizes the cost of retransmission.

In 5th generation (5G) and Beyond 5G mobile communication systems, it is expected that numerous antennas will be densely deployed to realize ultra-broadband communication and uniform coverage. However, as the number of antennas increases, total power consumption of all antennas will also increase, which leads to a negative impact on the environment and operating costs of telecommunication operators. Thus, it is necessary to simplify an antenna structure to suppress the power consumption of each antenna. On the other hand, as a way to realize ultra-broadband communication, millimeter waves will be utilized because they can transmit signals with a broader bandwidth than lower frequencies. However, since millimeter waves have a large propagation loss, a propagation distance is shorter than that of low frequencies. Therefore, in order to extend the propagation distance, it is necessary to increase an equivalent isotropic radiated power by beamforming with phased array antenna. In this paper, a phased antenna array module in combined with analog radio over fiber (A-RoF) technology for 40-GHz millimeter wave is developed and evaluated for the first time. An 8×8 phased array antenna for 40-GHz millimeter wave with integrated photodiodes and RF chains has been developed, and end-to-end transmission experiment including 20km A-RoF transmission and 3-m over-the-air transmission from the developed phased array antenna has been conducted. The results showed that the 40-GHz RF signal after the end-to-end transmission satisfied the criteria of 3GPP signal quality requirements within ±50 degrees of main beam direction.

The Common Media Application Format (CMAF) is a standard for adaptive bitrate live streaming. The CMAF adapts chunk encoding and enables low-latency live streaming. However, conventional bandwidth estimation for adaptive bitrate streaming underestimates bandwidth because download time is affected not only by network bandwidth but also by the idle times between chunks in the same segment. Inaccurate bandwidth estimation decreases the quality of experience of the streaming client. In this paper, we propose a chunk-grouping method to estimate the available bandwidth for adaptive bitrate live streaming. In the proposed method, by delaying HTTP request transmission and bandwidth estimation using grouped chunks, the client estimates the available bandwidth accurately due to there being no idle times in the grouped chunks. In addition, we extend the proposed method to dynamically change the number of grouping chunks according to buffer length during downloading of the previous segment. We evaluate the proposed methods under various network conditions in order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Recently, “Both-Side Retrodirective System” was proposed, as a beam convergence technique, for microwave high power transmission. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the both-side retrodirective system by experiment, the authors propose a 2-dimensional measurement equipment. Propagation in the parallel plate waveguide was analogized based on free-space propagation, and the theory and characteristics were clarified by simulation. The electric field distribution in the waveguide was measured by electric probe with the proposed equipment. Two types of measurement equipment were developed. One is a 4-element experiment system, which is a small-scale device for principle verification. The other is a 16-element measurement equipment, which is intended to evaluate beam convergence of a both-side retrodirective system in the next step. The measured results were compared with simulation results. As a result, it was confirmed that the beam formed in the waveguide was successfully measured. Thus, the effectiveness of 2-dimensional measurement equipment for evaluation of beam convergence was shown.

Indoor free space optical (FSO) communication technology that provides high-speed connectivity to edge users is expected to be introduced in the near future mobile communication system, where the silicon photonics solid-state beam scanning device is a promising tool because of its low cost, long-term reliability, and other beneficial properties. However, the current two-dimensional beam scanning devices using grating coupler arrays have difficulty in increasing the transmission capacity because of bandwidth regulation. To solve the problem, we have introduced a broadband surface optical coupler, “elephant coupler,” which has great potential for combining wavelength and spatial division multiplexing technologies into the beam scanning device, as an alternative to grating couplers. The prototype port-selective silicon beam scanning device fabricated using a 300 mm CMOS pilot line achieved broadband optical beam emission with a 1 dB-loss bandwidth of 40 nm and demonstrated beam scanning using an imaging lens. The device has also exhibited free-space signal transmission of non-return-to-zero on-off-keying signals at 10 Gbps over a wide wavelength range of 60 nm. In this paper, we present an overview of the developed beam scanning device. Furthermore, the theoretical design guidelines for indoor mobile FSO communication are discussed.

In this article, a new Beamforming Network (BFN) realized in Broadside Coupled Stripline (BCS) is proposed to feed 1×4 and 2×2 arrays antenna at 28 GHZ-Band. The new BFN is composed only of couplers and phase shifters. It doesn't require any crossover compared to the conventional Butler Matrix (BM) which requires two crossovers. The tight coupling and low loss characteristics of the BCS allow a design of a compact and wideband BFN. The new BFN produces the phase differences of (±90°) and (±45°, ±135°) respectively in x- and y-directions. Its integration with a 1×4 linear array antenna reduces the array area by 70% with an improvement of the gain performance compared with the conventional array. The integration with a 2×2 array allows the realization of a full 2-D beam scanning. The proposed concept has been verified experimentally by measuring the fabricated prototypes of the BFN, the 1-D and 2-D patch arrays antennas. The measured 11.5 dBi and 11.3 dBi maximum gains are realized in θ0 = 14° and (θ0, φ0) = (45°,345°) directions respectively for the 1-D and 2-D patch arrays. The physical area of the fabricated BFN is only (0.37λ0×0.3λ0×0.08λ0), while the 1-D array and 2-D array antennas areas without feeding transmission lines are respectively (0.5λ0×2.15λ0×0.08λ0) and (0.9λ0×0.8λ0×0.08λ0).

Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology has gained popularity as a way to enhance system performance. Nodes in a P2P network work together by providing network resources to one another. In this study, we examine the use of P2P technology for video streaming and develop a distributed incentive mechanism to prevent free-riding. Our proposed solution combines WebTorrent and the Solana blockchain and can be accessed through a web browser. To incentivize uploads, some of the received video chunks are encrypted using AES. Smart contracts on the blockchain are used for third-party verification of uploads and for managing access to the video content. Experimental results on a test network showed that our system can encrypt and decrypt chunks in about 1/40th the time it takes using WebRTC, without affecting the quality of video streaming. Smart contracts were also found to quickly verify uploads in about 860 milliseconds. The paper also explores how to effectively reward virtual points for uploads.

This paper proposes two full-digital receive beamforming (BF) methods for low-complexity and high-accuracy uplink signal detection via Gaussian belief propagation (GaBP) at base stations (BSs) adopting massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) for open radio access network (O-RAN). In addition, beyond fifth generation mobile communication (beyond 5G) systems will increase uplink capacity. In the scenarios such as O-RAN and beyond 5G, it is vital to reduce the cost of the BSs by limiting the bandwidth of fronthaul (FH) links, and the dimensionality reduction of the received signal based on the receive BF at a radio unit is a well-known strategy to reduce the amount of data transported via the FH links. In this paper, we clarify appropriate criteria for designing a BF weight considering the subsequent GaBP signal detection with the proposed methods: singular-value-decomposition-based BF and QR-decomposition-based BF with the aid of discrete-Fourier-transformation-based spreading. Both methods achieve the dimensionality reduction without compromising the desired signal power by taking advantage of a null space of channels. The proposed receive BF methods reduce correlations between the received signals in the BF domain, which improves the robustness of GaBP against spatial correlation among fading coefficients. Simulation results assuming realistic BS and user equipment arrangement show that the proposed methods improve detection capability while significantly reducing the computational cost.

A 2-D beam scanning array antenna fed by a compact 16-way 2-D beamforming network (BFN) designed in Broadside Coupled Stripline (BCS) is addressed. The proposed 16-way 2-D BFN is formed by interconnecting two groups of 4x4 Butler Matrix (BM). Each group is composed of four compact 4x4 BMs. The critical point of the design is to propose a simple and compact 4x4 BM without crossover in BCS to achieve a better transmission coefficient of the 16-way 2-D BFN with reduced size of merely 0.8λ0×0.8λ0×0.04λ0. Moreover, the complexity of the interface connection between the 2-D BFN and the 4x4 patch array antenna is reduced by using probe feeding. The 16-way 2-D BFN is able to produce the phase shift of ±45°, and ±135° in x- and y- directions. The 2-D BFN is easily integrated under the 4x4 patch array to form a 2-D phased array capable of switching 16 beams in both elevation and azimuth directions. The area of the proposed 2-D beam scanning array antenna module has been significantly reduced to 2λ0×2λ0×0.04λ0. A prototype operating in the frequency range of 4-6GHz is fabricated and measured to validate the concept. The measurement results agree well with the simulations.
