An approach for realizing mutually coupled circuits using current conveyors (CCIIs) as active elements is proposed. The realized circuits are composed of eight CCIIs, six resistors and four grounded capacitors. The values of a primary self-inductance, a secondary self-inductance and a mutual in ductance can be independently tuned by three resistors, respectively.
A switched-capacitor successive-approximation analog-to-digital (AD) converter is developed which incorporates a serial digital-to-analog (DA) subconverter for generating the threshold voltage sequence. Error analysis shows that a resolution higher than 12-b is attainable with the monolithic implementation using present CMOS technologies.

This letter presents a new design method for complex digital filters with an asymmetrical frequency response based on the frequency transformation, and shows a wave digital lattice network realization consisting of alternative connection of imaginary resistances and unit elements. As an example, a third order complex bandpass filter is designed, and its sensitivity characteristics are presented.

In some adaptive filtering applications, some researchers have explored the use of the multirate technique to improve the performance of the adaptive algorithms. However, some of these approaches have shown a degradation in performance. In this paper, we consider the conditions for filter banks which enable us to avoid the degradation. Next, we propose a filter bank with frequency sampling filters, and its performance is compared to those of conventional filter banks for adaptive system identification.

A new configuration is proposed for adaptive Rank Order Filters ('AROF') which adaptively extract the 'optimal rank'. The optimal rank is determined using the 'noise elimination efficiency' of ROF. The simulated results show that the AROF is more effective than the conventional rank-fixed ROFs at eliminating impulse noise.

A novel physical concept "optical instanton" is presented, which exhibits a particular quasi-particle form of spatiotemporally localized light field in an intensity-dependent nonlinear medium. The physical relevance of the ultimate localization to an ultrafast nonlinear coherent process is discusseed.

Power dependent coupling efficiency for a butt-joined configuration using nonlinear cladding is analyzed by the beam propagation method. This configuration is not so sensitive to the angular misalignment as well as the offset between coupled waveguides on condition that the input power is appropriate to assure the propagation of spatial soliton.
This paper shows a numerical method to simulate the effect of the external disturbance against the dielectric waveguide. Recently, moving boundary problem has been discussed for the Poisson's equation and the Laplace's equation. The author have extended this technique for Maxwell's equation and showed an electric destribution in a dielectric waveguide with moving boundary. This technique makes it possible not only to analyze the effect of the external disturbance in a coherent optical communication but also to fabricate optical modulators or couplers. As the first step, the author analyzed the dielectric waveguide with time dependent moving boundary to verify the possibility for these applications.
In the first place, a similarity degree is defined, as a membership function being a measure of a relation between two fuzzy points in a fuzzy set. Then, by using the degree, a fuzzy metric is proposed, and some properties are shown. Furthermore, an application of this is considered to a recognition system.

This paper describes the research results of three dimensional parameter representation of human arm motion, image synthesis and intelligent transmission for sign language communication between Japan and China using a personal computer.
This paper presents further results on the circular Levinson algorithm for multichannel linear prediction consisting only of scalar operations. The first result is an explicit inversion formula of the covariance matrix. This is a generalization of Trench and Gohberg-Semencul formula. An application to time series modeling is also mentioned. The second one is a simple modification in the algorithm to treat the case where the covariance matrix becomes singular. An example is given how the modified algorithm works.

Conventional sensitivity measures in the study of quantization effects in digital filters involve cross terms of zeros and poles and are hard to express the effect of individual poles and zeros. We show a linear relation between the zeros and poles and the moments of the impulse response. We also show an interesting condition for the zeros of FIR low pass filter having linear phase and real coefficients.
